Yes I agree waiting for full colinazation is very important. That is why when doning cakes I always wait 5-7 days longer after it apperars to be fully colinized before birthing.

Heh for sure Fucknuckle. I have spent a long time on the internet trying to write airtight arguments so when someone questions me I can go back and find my wording and know that I was safe
Here you go guys, Anno turned me onto this and now I'm offering this up. It is very very simple to edit. Please consider changing the air pump and humidifier faqs also that I have started for submission to the FAQ when they are done.

Not to mention non taperred jars which are "strait mouthed". And you can use that ill plastic that doesn't melt. I think Magash said Plastic #5 is good for cooking in the cooker as long as you don't over do the heat.
Quote:
mixture too wet - next time, gradually add water until saturated, then add the flour
I always add extra water, but too much water will make the evenness of the mix go off making the flour (denser) settle on the bottom and the verm settle on the top.
Quote:
mixture not airy, looks like sludge - use large chunk vermiculite, and don't shake or tamp it down
Definately fluff it up as much as possible, sludginess usually means too much water.
Quote:
water gets in during sterilisation - cover with foil, gentle simmer only
That's just funny. Remember, jars should not be floating around in the pressure cooker. Read the instructions of this device well as it can blow up in your face. If you do not have instructions, put the jars on top of the grate-like thing standing upside right, never upsidedown or sideways. Also do not cool jars right out of the oven with cold water, they will shatter.
Quote:
incomplete sterilisation - you won't know you did this til it all fucks up. give it an extra bit of time (hour?) to be sure. a stitch in time saves nine.
I'd cook it for an hour and check in 15 minutes if everything is working good. NEVER open the cooker while cooking, you can burn yourself and mess up the handle part of some cookers. They are made to resist being oppenned while under pressure for safety. If you break the safty thing, you could screw up the pressurization and put a gap in the seal.
Quote:
inoculating too soon - gotta let it get to room temperature after the boiling/pc: allow at LEAST 4 hours for this, preferably longer
Over night is best. Once cool to the touch, the core of the cake might still be hot.
Quote:
growth starts, then stalls - did you remember to take the tape off and invert the jars after they got going?
I don't even use tape. and you can also keep the jars sideways and roll them. Putting them upside down might make the cake fall to the top and then when you turn em again, it might make the cake fall to the bottom pulling in air and contams from the outside world.
Quote:
not sure whether to cake or case? - decide, then stick with it. do both, even. otherwise you'll do neither one properly if you try to switch late.
Casing is said to increase yeilds unless you fuck up and contam yourself.
Quote:
no pins even 10 days after birth - check your four triggers (light, temp, humidity, air exchange) and inspect for contams and pests. then worry.
Flies will bring mold with them so keep your shit locked. Some of these flies are very little and can go through screens. No one wants a grubby shroom or shrooms grown off grubby cakes. Also remember cold shocking and dunking is cool.
In the end that was very well written, Shirley.

I'm a complete newbie at growing. Everything I read from everybody gives me some type of info. I'm not a patient person, but as far as mushrooms go, I'm willing to wait as long as it takes! I'm doing alot of reading and asking around(my personal friends) for advise and tips. As much material as I read...I always find something new. I could never know to much....so thank you again for the tips!!!

This is a great thread! My friend is pc'ing her brf tonight and noccing tomorrow. She found a great friend on this site who is like her teacher and he puts up with all her really stupid ?'s. Eventhough she read and read and read, she still had ?'s because its different to read something and actually do it. She is like her student and I think it really helped her out with understanding everything. Its great for her to have a teacher who is willing to walk her through a whole grow cycle and help out. She is worried about the water content in her jars mostly and contams, and this thread is a great outline for her to print and follow as like a check list! So thanks again from my friend!
