Ja, so like, for this one, (and at the root, every little issue, albeit this one strikes at it more openly), you have to eliminate the notion of an individual perspective. If you pull out that individual perspective, it is easy to see the mechanics behind all of this.

Moments flow right into each other, without pause. Everything plays out continously. One simple word's effects will be felt throughout for all of time.

You (addressed at everyone) are a composite character composed of every single, previous action, event, occurence, state of being that has ever existed, in any and every location throughout what I will refer to as this system, the only system. You might be different (despite the fact that the word "you" has no boundaries, where do you begin and end?), but there is not a single aspect of whatever you identify with as yourself that did not come to be from some "outside" influence.

Like I said, this is not at all hard to understand if you think about it. There are so many currents of influence flowing between (in both directions, simeoutaneously) this invisible, nonexistant line that marks who we are and all the variables of the rest of this system. We are a dynamic process that is ever-changing. The only constant to us is a simple state of being, the rest contionously flows, changes, grows, and evolves. A fine example we can compare this to is a river.

Is there ever a physical location in a part of a river that declares that the water, which is simply flowing through it, that flows out of that point on its contionous flow further downstream, was created by that point? The concept is absurd, excuse me while I laugh for awhile.

It is just as absurd when an aware nexus point of energy in a mesh network of energy claims that energy that flows through its substructure and back out "created" the energy that moved through it. The fact that we experience an indivdual perspective doesn't mean that we are truly seperate and individual.

I am personally a musician, and it is my main interest and pursuit. While I do refer to the musikk that I make as "my musikk", it is merely a convention for the purposes of communication. I didn't seperate myself entirely from a mesh network of interaction and independantly create anything, the thought is genuinely ABSURD:tongue: I do not act, action flows through me. I do not create musikk, musikk flows through me.

Seriously, though, and this is addressed at every member of our species, predominantly Americans - this implied importance on the individual perspective needs to fucking stop. It is out of control, you should all be ashamed.

Great thread, Swamster, thumbs up , you have the idea.

Below are things for ya'll to listen to. Just stuff I've been working on with the computer, not all that great at composing yet... it's metal, good metal.... I don't know how good MIDI's sound on ya'll's computers, but it sounds decent enough with mine, and I merely use XP's standard, so *shrugs*, and, since they are MIDI's (although since I have admitted they are, absolutely fucking no one will listen, because that is just the way it goes, people are dicks ), they will download instantly, so they are ready for you to enjoy.

Hemmelighet Metall - Mould

Hemmelighet Metall - Thoxy Orb

Hemmelighet Metall - Bravery

Hemmelighet Metall - Enter

Hemmelighet Metall - Damn

Hemmelighet Metall - Sweden

I'm not all that skilled at completing full songs, but Sweden is actually, for all intents and purposes, at this moment, complete.

If everyone has sucky MIDI drivers or something, I could always convert to .wav with my program, so it at least sounds like it does on my computer, with everything volumed and panned correctly... I play bass, and I should be getting a guitar in weeks, so I will then record these ideas, and I have my synth player committed to recording those parts... so then it will be more real...

Maybe the universe is ultimatley a particle of pure experience, and life has arisen within that experience to actualise and perceive the thing from which it arose. Each human striving to experience more of the overall fractal, mannnnnnn :P

Hell yeah.  That's getting close to the truth of music.  Music is supremely cosmic.
At 'peak moments' I can relate the idea that I was not doing all the creating, just a peice of the puzzle.  But it's not because I'm operating withing a patterned framework that dirrects me towards certain choices, or because the phsysics involved are doing so much.  No..Its more that one can channle a higher intelligence through ones self...the physics aren't doing work for you, you become the physics involved.
Your mind can merge with all that is happening in an outward expansion, and the more it embodies the more it can process, giving a greater and greater capability of awerness and self affirming expression to justify this awareness.  This can spin out until you don't see a difference between yourself and whatever it was that appeared seperate from you.
'You' wont even be in the picture any more..the ancestors that created the physics that you are taking advantage of will be playing through you, and they know they are one with the math.  They designed it like it is for a reason, to come back at that moment to enjoy it.  Once you hit that point you are riding the crest of evolution, of the very purpose of the universe, you will have reclaimed your status as an active god.
Rock the fuck on.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you are saying, so let me try and paraphrase it.
Are you saying that we do not create music because we are merely the means in which our pasts travel through us??? Because, you lost me.
And what's with this "importance of the individual perspective is crap"?

I firmly state that I create the percussion and the bass. I write and perform the guitar, piano, and trumpet. I sing the vocals. I position the mics, create the FX. I edit, mix, and master the entire creation. How, with all these millions of choices, is my own unique choice not creating. Hell, even when I do remixes, I am creating something new, even if it is a derivative work.

Re: Making Music: What is Creation? [Re: Swami]

I for one don't know where the music I write comes from. If I write a good song, I'll never know where it came from. I'll probably be fiddling around on my guitar, playing absent mindedly, and then suddenly, there it is. A great song, and I have no clue where it came from. It sure as hell wasn't me, although I did function as the channel to guide the music into air waves. In my opinion, when I'm writing music (as opposed to playing it), I'm just a tool, like vocal chords, guitars, amps, FX pedals and drums.

Perhaps some people actually apply harmonics and formal theories like counterpoint to their music when creating, but I don't create consciously at all. I just go with the flow, see what sounds right, and - if I'm lucky - write one decent song per week.

imo, yes.

a choice, whether it's made consciously or not, is a creative (or destructively creative) act.

Things are constantly changing, thats why when YOU make something, you (maybe not alone) created it. We are all apart of the same that is constantly changing around us and in ourselves at every single moment.

The universe fluctuates in so many ways on so many levels...

I like electronic music myself a lot, i have grown quite acustomed to the environment i find myself thinking about while im listening to it.

Its built into us, as we have the sense to percieve not only music and sound, but where it comes from, the very objects that make up our external existence.

The sound(s) travels through filters inside you. Then you make these sounds from your own physical activity by applying an order or sequence to these patters, which makes your music.

Its the best formulated expression of creation and music this little brain can /compute/.

Thanks for sharing your creations.  Nice sketches and quite intriguing and energetic, but they sound as if a musical element is missing. The guitar work seems to be doing the job of both rhythm and lead. A synth or guitar lead track or perhaps a background pad or organ would fill them out, tie them together and give them more depth.

My tracks tend to be too busy, so I maybe biased towards minimalism.  :tongue2:

Would like to hear the produced versions.

Some people'll tell you there's no such thing as originality because everything's been done before. That's bollocks. Just because the alphabet already exists it doesn't mean that writing a poem isn't creative because it's all about the way you choose to arrange the letters. There's infinite (to our perception) combinations of words and musical notes. There's two schools of thought on these combinations - the first is that they already exist and we are unlocking them as we write and create music. The other is that they don't exist before we create them. I suppose it's like the fate debate. All about personal beliefs. I hope that made sense, peace

Simply, what I am saying is that we do not create musikk, but that musikk is created through us.

And what's with this "importance of the individual perspective is crap"?

Placing importance on the individual perspective seperates us from the rest of the universe, thereby blinding us from a lot of observable truth regarding the universe and the nature of things. This fucks us over because we do not act considering all of the variables.

Example: war, imbalanced destruction of environment, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc........

Placing importance on the individual perspective ruins the quality and effectivness of relationships with other people because we do not even see how we relate to these people. etc. etc. etc.

You state, no matter how firmly, nothing. You are nothing but awareness, the observer. Everything else comes and goes, and cannot be identified with. The only constant is the awareness.

Well, I have two guitar tracks, bass, drums, and one or sometimes two synth tracks, and sometimes (like Damn or parts of Sweden, and, actually, parts of Bravery as well) two lead tracks.

Of course, some parts have more focus on rhythm, especially since I am not the best with leads... It could be your MIDI driver might not be playing them as intended, but since it is you, I would surmise that you have a pretty good MIDI setup... But, then again, that could be it as well, I don't use my soundcard's MIDI because it just doesn't sound good with my stuff, although it is excellent... XP's is a little more raw and the different instruments blend together better...

So I'm not sure what it is.. but I blame MIDI. It won't be too long before I will be able to record these things, and once I have a guitar, I will be more skilled at songwriting in general. I'll be able to get everything sounding exactly how I want it then, as far as balances between instruments and everything, so I promise they will be heavy, hard, fast, melodic, symphonic, and trippy.

Production and engineering is both science and art. With a single session's recordings, one could do a near infinite number of mixes. This is dangerous for those with a perfectionist mindset as one may never finish as one is never satisfied.

Here are my suggestions when you get to that stage:

Take a 15-20 minute break every hour. Our ears will fatigue easily. Keep the volume relatively low in the intial stages to save your hearing. Crank it up more when almost finished or for only brief periods to check out a passage.

Don't continue when you are getting tired or losing focus.

Mix on a premium system and later - listen to your music on a cheap boom box, cars with high-end and low-end audio systems; etc. and take notes.

When almost complete, wait a week or so between listening to tracks for fine tuning. You may hear things differently with some time away. Once you settle on a mix, be content that it is a complete work. Don't go back later to try to "fix it" unless you discover something glaringly wrong. Carry any knowledge gained into new tracks.

While posting your music here was fine, DON'T share your incomplete tracks. Others' premature input my confuse you or cause doubt. Follow your vision. This is not to say that one should not get professional feedback (if possible) to learn more about the trade.

Good luck!
