Possibly contaminated spore prints - need advice

I've been thinking about trying to make a karo jar using a spore print that i saved from former batch. Problem is that this print might not be totally sterile. Here's how it happened. I took a playing card wiped it off, put the mushroom on it, and covered it with a glass to prevent dust. No I did not spray the card with alcohol, a mistake. I happened to be starting a trip when I made the print, I had realized it was then or never (it was my last mushie). The print looked great when it was done. I wrappped it in aluminum foil and put it away at room temp. Can I do the karo tek and then maybe smell the mixture to detect contamination. Will I be able to tell visually if its contaminated? What do you guys suggest, should I just break down and buy a spore syringe to be safe and try the karo tek then?

I'd at least try the karo tek with it. Alot of times you can see contams in karo/honey. If you had some agar, that would be best though.

The problem with foil is that is causes the spores to clump together. Paper removes moisture from the spores so that they will not clump. Though, to some ppl, it doesnt matter.... depends on whether you are making syringes or not.

ok, you can save it, but it's gonna take a little work...... make a liquid media jar and nocc that bitch up. once you see myc growth make another liquid media jar and get it ready. make a water/peroxide mixture (10:1 ratio) fill a syringe about half way with the water/peroxide mix and then suck some myc up and shoot the cocktail into the new liquid media jar. it should grow contaminate free now! also, be patient with the second jar, the peroxide will most likely shock the myc at first so give it an extra day or two.

Start a culture on agar, start a shitload.

Some will probably contam, it's pretty much trial and error.

Once the shit grows, Isolate it onto new petri dishes.

If they all have mold, definately don't isolate it if it has cobweb.

This is a standard isolation tech for any type of isolation, It's so simple school children could do it.

If agar and Petrie dishes are not your cup of tea, there is another possibility.

Make a bunch of PF jars. Inoculate them with as LITTLE spore water as possible. Hopefully at least one injection site in one jar will be clean, take a sample of myc from there and do a transfer.

Sucks, but if you have no other spores....
