spore print from contam'ed cake

I harvested only one spore print from my last batch of shrooms. This print must have been contaminated because all the jars i innoculated with it got the same thick white contam. One of the cakes had just a little on top of it and i decided i would cut it off and try to fruit the cake to harvest a spore print so i could continue with my hobbie without having to spend more money on spores. Maybe two weeks later it hadn't any pins so i crumbled it and threw it in a poor man's terrarium and checked it a couple days later to see if it was still contaminated -- it was. It had that mold in like 4 or 5 different areas. I just left it there and forgot about it. Today (which is about 1 month later) i remembered my flat cake and went check it. The white contam had turned somewhat pink-ish and there is a small mushroom growing. As i still haven't got any spores i was wondering if i could harvest a viable print from that shroom.

Yes you can still get spores from that shroom. THey will be fine!

Don't waste your time. I've tried more than once. For example, a batch of 24 jars...
12 with print from contaminated casing = 12 bad jars.
12 done same day with fresh print = 12 good jars.

You can get spores from the Free Spore Ring for
a dollar. Or PM me for free ones.
And clean up good around where those contamns were
with alcohol. Wouldn't want em to get you twice!

I would never have left a contaminated batch sitting around. Mold sends out spores into the air and now everything is contaminated. How are you going to get an uncontaminated print? Probably your whole room is contaminated.

I threw all the contaminated jars away and only left one so i could get a print. And that one was on a almost air tight container in a room where i never do any innoc's or leave jars sitting around.

I sent an order to FSR Europe yesterday so i should have a print in a couple of weeks. I was just trying to speed things up.

Anyways i won't use the spores. I'll just wait for my FSRE print.

In actual fact most sporeprints are contaminated to some extent - it just depends on the genetics of the mushroom and its ability to outgrow any nasties.
You can clean the print up but using peroxidated agar to get a pure culture, or even make syringes from the print and try and get a clean cake out of that to print.
