Taking a spore print is pretty easy, your screw up may have come further down the line in your syringe making efforts or even during innoculation. It's hard to tell.
When making spore prints, everything must be sterile of course. Start with your hands, your work area. No dogs allowed, no mouldy towels or mouldy bread around. Find a small back room to do it in if possible, one that doesn't have a lot of traffic. Now sterilize your print paper by putting in oven at 350 for 10 minutes or so. I like to use foilo, I find the spores scrape off easy. With paper, I find a lot of the spores meld into the paper and are lost forever. Scraping too much results in paper fibres. Allrighty then, now take your sterilized print paper and place your clean cup over it and get your cap ready. Moisten the top of the cap before placing on paper. This will keep it 'alive' longer and it will continue dropping spores. Now just give it a day or two to drop its spores.
Some people like to let it drop spores for a couple hours, then they change print paper. This is very good method when working with wild specimens. The first spores that drop would be the ones most likely to be contaminated. TIP: Don't be lifting it up every 10 minutes to see if it's dropping spores, that is just opening the door for contams!

y first few spore prints were successfull, but I did it on a relatively rough kind of paper, and lots of spores were lost :P
I actually use glazed white tiles for putting prints onto, that way all of the spores can be utilized.

and it's always a good idea to test home-made syringes on a test jar before doing a large batch....
