Rye or millet are common top contenders. Oats and wild bird seed mix also work, but may require more fudging to dial them in to the right moisture level.

There really isn't a best but wheat, rye, and millet are the most popular.

Don't trash anything quite yet, open one of them up and get a good picture for us to look at. I think DV8DUG is onto something here, maybe it is mycelium and we just can't tell through the lid and condensation.

I was thinking about this last night after his comment, and the growth rate of the "mold" sure seems to be lining up with the rate mycelium would grow.

Rye was good to me. I knocked up a 2.5lb bag with treasure coast LC and it colonized in about a month with two shake and breaks. I'll probably stick to the same sized rye bags for future grows. They are pretty cheap and makes things easier for me.

Heck ya good point:rockon:

Its got more than one use

I will temper my admiration for brown rice by stating that it can be finicky so you gotta follow the tek to the Tee

I am aware that other grains are more forgiving in terms of preparation but brown rice is my grain of choice forsure

Hey so I have just one albino mushroom in my treasure coast grow. Seems to be growing faster and thicker than it's peers. The appearance is different even beyond the obvious lack of pigmentation.

Is it possible to receive multiple varieties from the same vendor syringe or is this just a treasure coast freak? I kind of want a monotub full of these but am not set up to clone and don't even really know how that works.

If you have a feed mill nearby, hit them up for some white millet and wheat. It's dirty cheap that way

For the millet: check this Tek out No prep millet

For wheat:

rinse by submerging in water, empty and refill water until the water is clear, remove the floating debris

Soak for 4-24 hours

Simmer for 10 minutes

Dump onto a screen of sorts and allow the grain to dry until most of, or all the visible surface moisture is gone, stirring as needed to allow evaporation.

Load and pressure cook for 2 hours, being sure to vent for 10min before cooking.

Leave at least 1/3 of the jars empty to allow for shaking when the mycelium colonizes 20-30%

So I've seen green, blue, and black staining in mushrooms, but has anyone seen pink?
Bottom right of each mushroom has this pink that appeared after cutting. A dry half gram of it has me full blown tripping like I ate 2 grams of PE. It's KSAT if that matters.

Woah! That's awesome, an albino treasure coast.

You can use a combination of these teks in the interim

Cloning tek

Brf puck

You can steam the brf pucks for 90-120 minutes if you don't have a PC. This is outlined in the Updated PF Tek guide

Alternatively, you can store the mushroom in the fridge and order or track down some sterile swabs. Swab the gills, then germinate at a later date. They may or may not continue to be albino, however cloning like described above will almost definitely preserve the trait.

If I were you I'd consider doing both to preserve the genetics the best you can

I think it's a naturally occurring albino! Was this from a clone, or spores to agar?

Albino mutations happen from time to time, and the lack of melanin changes some things in regards to cell stretching, so I would definitely clone that, and try grabbing a print as well. If there are dark spores, it's leucistic, if there are white/transparent spores, it's a true albino.

For cloning, all you have to effectively do is take a sample from inside of the stem that was never exposed to air. You should split it inside of a SAB, and grab an inner piece with sterilized tweezers/scalpel/needle, and put it on agar. That's the jist of it. There are good cloning teks, just check the hithiker's guide.

I've seen this with grey and blue oysters before, as well store bought portabellas. In both cases I fried them up and didn't get sick. Haven't seen it with cubes before

Hey thanks for interest in my albino shroom. I started this grow from liquid culture from a reputable vendor. I want to clone it and may try. I didn't anticipate an interesting mutation right away.

I have enough of this treasure coast LC for at least two more batches. Maybe I will get more albinos. Will let you guys know down the road if they come up.

I'm curious how rare this is?
