Good morning, everyone! :goodmorning:

Damn, I had no idea about this movie. Looks really good, thanks — I'll have to check it out.

Watching the trailer reminded me of a film I really liked. I'll leave the trailer here too, in case anyone hasn't seen it:

Watched this the other night with my partner and thought it was a fun one. Very visually pleasing film, lots of social commentary

Sidenote, I've been putting off dealing with a hernia for months now and it's finally starting to become more of a problem and I'm taking myself to the doctor today. I'm close to 40 and have never had to get surgery before and I'm feeling kinda weird about it. I know I'm gonna be fine and blood/gore/pain really dont phase me, I usually watch when I've had to get blood drawn, watched my finger get 13 stitches put in it once, have tattoos on my neck and hands, etc., but somethings still making me feel uneasy about it. I honestly think a lot of it is coming from a financial standpoint, I already scrape by and adding this to the pile is gonna suck. I suppose having s functional gi system is important though.

Man... my cat was recently diagnosed with lymphoma and up until now its manifested as just little skin level tumors.  We removed a toe like last month but this week ive found like 3 new little tumors and he seems to have something going on in his back leg that started as a limp last week and today he can barely walk at all.  (Not even the leg he lost a toe from)

Im fucking devastated.  Hes the most special cat.  Even now he seems so happy.  He crawled in bed with me last night and  laid close to my chest (which he never does) and just purred all night.  I maybe got like 3 hours of sleep because i just wanted to pet him all night.

Dont know what to do.  Theres an oncology place about 4 hours away for dogs and cats but he does NOT travel welll . Hes just not that old.  Maybe 9 or 10... i just feel like i want to give him a chance but i also dont want to make his life hell.
Fuck.

Tough fuckin spot mate.

Pay close attention and let the situation dictate response moment to moment.

As for him not travelling well, you couldn't ask the vet for a bit of gabapentin or something lesser to take the edge off? Then while travelling cover his hutch on a feliway sprayed blanket or somesuch?

I dunno financially where you're at but there's also the option to have someone come to the house and check him over etc?

:edit: p.s wishing you luck with the hernia fontinalis

We had to put down Mr. Bean a year ago. He stopped eating and was losing weight and after two weeks of trying different things, he still wasn't eating. He just seemed so miserable, so we had to let him go. He came and slept with me the last night and we let him roam around outside for a bit before we went. The vet said he was full of tumors and there was nothing that could have been done.

I'm sorry to hear beef.

Sometimes cats get a bit more affectionate towards the end, as they seek comfort, warmth and reassurance. They express pain differently than us so it's hard to gauge exactly what is going on with them.

An important thing is dignity and avoiding suffering or prolonging it. Putting down a pet can be the right thing, especially if its going to be thousands of dollars to have an anxious and pain ridden last few months.

I wish him well and that he recovers, but if the outcomes seem like a mess, its ok to send him off, just make sure to spoil him, and hold him throughout everything, letting him know daddy is there.

Ya, the bummer is that he just seems
Like he feels fine.  He still just seems stoked to be alive.  Still does this "battle cat" routine where he shreds my arm
And bites my hand.  Back leg seems to
Work great for kicking me.  Of course its all fun.  Like i said hes a huge cat if he wanted to hurt me he could easily send me to an er.  He just feels good enough to be ornery so its hard.

Hes aleady had like what.. 3 surgeries and these tumors just keep popping up like mushrooms . I just dont know.  Ive put a lot of animals down but this is killing me.  I think the best thing is to just let him hang as long as he wants, ya know?  Usually animals kindof tell you when theyre done and hes not telling me that.

^all of the above good points. Man, cogrower we had to let our cat 'Yoshimitsu' aka bean go last december, after caring for her illness through oct and nov. I'm missing her recently but also grateful we got the chance to care for her so much. I hope you're coping ok too, without your friend.

I'm not a platitudes fellow but when Ive heard "sharing life with a pet is thousands of the best day of your life, for one of the worst"

Of course, none of us are saying your guy is on his way out for sure Beef, but you just got to make sure you do what's right for your cat. You seem like you'll be able to seperate what you need from what he does, but its still a fucking loathsome feeling because animals are just so amazing. Im gonna huff both my cats esscence right now, Im lucky we still have a bro and sis I got when I was 20, they are 11 years old and I just got them a new cardboard scratcher today- which they love- third of this type they been thrashin fuck out them

:edit: I see you commented in the mean time, you got this mate.

P.S my boy is a big ol cat too, since I changed his diet hes slimmed up a bit but man when I tripped a few weeks ago he come up and I rested my head on like a pillow, what bliss. And it reminds me its been a while since I recommended people to LISTEN TO YOUR CAT PURR WITH A STETHOSCOPE ON PSYCHEDELICS

Damn, that's so tough, man.

My girlfriend and I are sending you all the good energy we can. I don't know what the efficacy of oncological treatments in felines is — knowing that would help in making decisions.

The bitch of it is that humans understand the concept of suffering to 'try' to heal ourselves, but I don't know how cats handle it. Listen to your heart and follow your intuition — it's deeply personal. Whatever you decide, it will be the right choice.

Maybe someone around here has some experience and can offer advice.

A big hug, man.

Fonti, what type of hernia do you have? Disc, abdominal, hiatal?

:frown:

my heart goes out to all of you, beef, cogrower, lithop, I feel for you guys.

I lost my gal Bagheera a few years ago, she was 19 and my mom was taking care of her while I was in a transition and she pee'd under the bed. My mom took that as a sign it was the end and drove her into the hills and shot her, buried her there. It was devastating. My partner has a sweet little lady she got as a kitten when she was 7, there were two but one passed last year, we've had to do lots of extra care this year and I feel it coming. It's hard, we live too long compared to them it's not fair. I agree with lith though, you know your kitty better than anyone and it sounds like you keep him a happy camper, sending big psychic support vibes

I love boosters was such a fun watch, without ruining it for anyone it did get a lil funky when the suits come off but overall we just had so much fun with it.

Is this for a hiatal hernia? Thought it might be since you mentioned GI issues. I'm considering getting that done at one point if so. I'm uneasy about it as well, especially since it can happen again regardless of the surgery I'm worried it would be a bunch of recovery and then pop-up again in the future. That being said I'm reaching the point where I think it would greatly help me so I'm going to consider it.

That's so hard and I don't think there's an easy answer. When my dog kept getting new tumors we eventually reached the point where we could tell it was impacting him. It didn't make it easier but we knew what we had to do and realistically there isn't a real long term medical solution. What you said right here is what I personally believe is the best thing to do. You know your animals better than anyone in the world, once it starts to cause them pain you'll know it's time.

I'm happy he still behaves like a happy cat full of life, I just wish it was an easier situation for you two.

Yea.  Actually i found him under a woodpile.  Seems to have been torn up by a coyote or something at the time.  I trapped
Him and i was just gonna have him
Put down he was im such a sorry state but my vet does what she wants, not what her clients want.  I thought he was just a wild tom.  She called me like a month later and was like "you
Gonna come get this car or
Is he mine? Hes really cool"

I was like "what? He lived? Holy shit. How much do i owe you?" Shes like "dont worry about it.  You cant afford it"

I ended up working it off planting trees at her house and working on her irrigation.

But ya.  Hes kinda the cat version of me.  His ears are all
Chipped and scarred but he doesnt have a mean
Bone in his body.  Likes to
Watch birds and make friends with mice etc.

Beef, you've had plenty of good advice already. Just wanted to add, once quality of life starts deteriorating, things often go downhill fast and it is in your hands to avoid a terrible end.

Whatever you decide, all the best to you, Duc and the kitty. We had to put down Haika this summer, I miss her more than I miss sone family members.
