That's good advice. Definitely get a pre filter one of the Merv ones..

Measure the back and find one that fits. Theres some that fit really well. Then we just find your preferred way of securing it.

That's the same thing as a dehydrator right? Yes,  Dehydrator is your best bet.

potency is inherently subjective so it will just be guessing. i like fresh fruit. it think its either fresh/dried potent but eevn then the difference is negligible and you have to find your dose with different ap. etc

Question, how can I stop my tubs from growing out the bottom of the substrate? I rewet the substrate after it dried out and now they are growing on the bottom of the tub. I mean pushing up the substrate from the bottom

When you spawn, make sure the mix is at field capacity or just under. Then lightly mist the psuedo casing. This will signal to the mycelium that it's ideal moisture is on the surface, which will cause it to pin there.:mushroom2:

What type of fruiting chamber are you using?

Again, this was a tub that had completely stalled. I dunked it for 12 hours and it has come back to life and have some major fruiting above the surface on one side, MAJOR fruiting on the bottom on the other. I went drastic modem cut the cake in half and flipped the one half that was fruiting on the bottom.
I use the same 12qt tub in a dubtub config as the fruiting chamber.

If you want to avoid side and bottom pins you need to make conditions on the top better. Most of the time they pin where conditions are best and if they choose the bottom to pin it means the surface on top is not suitable. Dial it in.

I can see that there is a lot more moisture on the bottom of the tub. This is my first grow and I messed around far more often than I should have, the substrate dried out, etc., etc. When I cut the cake apart it is well hydrated except for the upper surface so you are probably correct. Next grow will be hands off until its time to harvest

I have a specific question regarding KSSS/Koh Samui and multispore genetics.

I was gifted a spore print labeled KSSS. I used it on cakes.

Worked beautifully, but I got much more of the regular cube pheno. Made me think it was mislabelled Koh Samui.

But, on another cake, I am getting the pheno I was expecting, the KSSS short squat pheno. So I guess KSSS it truly is.

In retrospect, this all makes sense. It's a recessive mutation, makes sense for most to have regular cubes show up. The full canopies you see online probably come from LC or cloned samples.

Now, my question is this. If I get spore prints from the regular fruits, am I making it less likely for the next generation to get the KSSS pheno? By propagating regular looking ones, am I neutering the chances?

Like, do spore vendors who sell KSSS spores exclusively grab prints from the ones that look like traditional KSSS? Or any of the fruits from this line contain the potential, it's just a matter of doing cakes first to get a wide range and then pick the winner winner.

My guess would be they're grabbing spores from fruits that are being grown from a cloned culture. Even spores from the pheno you want are gonna have a huge mixed bag of genetics, but when you take spores from a fruit with specific traits youre looking for you know that the coding for those traits are gonna be in at least some of the spores. It's like going back to seed. Also, just because theres one of the traits you're looking for present doesn't mean that it'll be genetically the same as other phenos that have similar traits. So like, if you get two squat ksss fruits from ms on a cake or puck, that just means they both have the squat genes expressing, not that they're genetically identical. It's my understanding that the process of going from clone to spore to clone to spore to clone to spore to clone etc is how you start narrowing down that mixed bag, i.e. "stabilization", but it's still never a guarantee that you'll get exactly what you want from spore

oats and rye are cheap in bulk, but I wasn't able to get any right away, so I decided to try with what I had in hand: kinoa, brown rice and buckwheat. Am I guaranteed to fail?

for grains? not sure. I think Lo-z has a recent tek on brown rice grains that seemed decent.

for pf tek cakes? Pretty sure quinoa flour and definitely brown rice flour will be good. not sure about buckwheat.

Yeah, I'm doing agar or lc/sslc to grain and spawn to shoeboxes. At least that's the plan

If you have the jars, just make cakes. You can crumble those to bulk.

Only one worth trying to do as grains is brown rice, use Lo-z's tek
