Is this contamination or just wet agar?
    #29685614 -

Hey so turns out it was just taking a while for the spores to germinate. But they did and i made 12 transfers. Out of those, 1 has clear contam but i can't really tell if this is contamination or if the agar got wet. I'm talking about the weird translucent slime like stuff on the rim of the plate. Anyone know what it is? Thankfully the other agar dishes are perfect 🙂.

All of those plates look bacterial to me

Yeah, IMO the contamination is mostly coming from the walls of the containers.

Are they brand new or reused?
Do you store them upside down after prepping so condensation doesn't pool at the bottom?

Hugs

I usually get bacterial rings when I'm not clean putting the lid back on.

Now I try not to finger the lip of the cup or touch the threads.

I've learned to be very mindful of where exactly I put my hands on the lid and cup.

Bacterial, Notice how the bacteria is primarily in places your hand lifted the lid, not where you dropped them in on the scalpel. That's where you need to assess a change to prevent future contamination.

Glad to hear youve got other plates that are looking good! The joys of agar:smile::mushroom2: great work employing agar in your cultivation:rockon:

Ok thanks I guess i'll toss those out now 😭

Just to double check, these are clean right? I don't see any weird stuff going on with these.

These are brand new but they were stored right side up for a few days so maybe that caused it. When I opened the plates to inoculate them I opened them upside down to let all the water escape.

Also, I wanna get some reusable glass plates for better visibility because these plastic ones are so foggy. Does anyone know where I can get those for cheap? On amazon i saw 5 for like $26

That's about as cheap as borosilicate glass comes.

I decided to skip the flowhood and invest in pyrex which works wonderfully, though not cheap at all. Sometimes they go on sale for $80 a 12 pack though
