What is a good way of getting these filter disks to stay on? Masking tape?

What kind of contamination are you getting? Wet spot, only? Your mycelium is good on the grain, but after shaking it stops growing? Is the mycelium greasy in appearance before shaking?

sometimes it is greasy. Yet a lot of the time it is not at all. I smell a sour smell when it gets really bad. The mycelium also grows very fast; its actually a 1:3 mixture of finch seed, and grain. I am going to try using this new method. I have these filter disks that fit over my wide mouth jars. I will screw the cap on over the filter disk, but unlike other places I've read, I have drilled a hole in the tops of the covers. This way there will be less drying, a tighter seal for the covers will not be inverted, and one really cool thing is that the whole cap comes off in one piece when the filter disk is shuved on there. I would still appreciate some scrutiny on my procedure as I am a novice.
