My sad second flush
    #29681171 -

Opened 8-23-26 to fruit. Its got like 3 shrooms total. So I rinsed it in the kitchen sink and dunked it again. It still appears alive to me and its just gotta have more in it if I could just shake em out somehow. What other things could I try.. If its a dead cake can't lose much if I try some things.

I don't know if that's bruising. Looks like it but its kinda of mushy in one area. I'm thinking about cutting it off and hoping the cake will get lively If the mushy part is carved away.

It wants you to throw a little coir on top so that it can establish a new surface.
What do you have to lose?

bruising IMO yeah. Looks like it's overlaying a little bit, there's always punisher tek.

So first I shaved the icky mushy part and...

I add some coir. So that's what they like to do? Pop through more coir? Is it cuz its wet or something?

Let this one ride and you can also try Beef's Punisher tek in the future as well.

Edit.

I'm a dumbass. Rasmodius already mentioned this....

There seems to be hyphae shooting up through the coir. Checked on it this morning but failed to get pics. I'll take pics later. This is a good sign they might get lively again?

Hyphae reaching into the air from the substrate is generally a good sign, yes.  It signals optimal conditions.

Seems to be peaking through. Looks like a pin bottom left almost.

Could it be happening? I can get at least one more healthy flush outta this seemingly weak cake?
Are all them little threads where shrooms are gonna be? They not gonna bother to colonize the coir just pump the shrooms out?

You are getting a couple of pins and have some knitting going on.  Youโ€™re going to get something off of that

So how is it doing? If it was Trichoderma a lot would be green already considering that you handled it and washed it they will bruise but I couldnโ€™t tell from your picture cause it looked really wet and you donโ€™t want that mush luv

Those two early bird fruits are some excellent cloning candidates

I've been wanting to make lots of plates from spores. Lots of genetic diversity. So alongside this project I'm streaking plates.
Why clone those early birds? There something special of them? I was thinking of gettn their spores so that I got plenty of supply for perpetual grow. I've been running low on spawn. I might just let them sporulate AND clone em.

So that the potential for having a large flush of early birds becomes a high probability.

Isn't the whole cake one DNA? Like every cap is a clone of its neighbor if attached to the same cake right?

No.  Itโ€™s multiple genetics.  Thatโ€™s how and why the fruits will be different sizes and come in at different times.  Clones are still have many genetics, only far fewer than grows started with spores.

Honestly, taking a pin that size is still somewhat of a gamble.  Sure it will be a fast fruiting culture, however, unless you wait to clone it when itโ€™s mature, you canโ€™t be sure how big or small the fruit will get.

Interesting I was under the impression the cake has the same DNA all throughout including every single shroom that pops up. All clones. One organism.
Isn't there some kinda genetic advantage starting the next gen from spores though?
