agar to get even pins and flushes w. every strain???
    #1175127 - 12/28/02 11:47 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Ok, my friend has been growing a while. He's noticed that some strains get great even pinsets and big flushes while other strains aren't near as even and don't give near as many fruits, but still about the same weight, just fewer bigger fruits. Specifically, he's gotten great flushes w. B+, hawaiian, and amazon. But w. eq's and koh samuis, he tends to get fewer, but bigger fruits, and the pinset is just terrible in terms of evenness. So here's the question, with the strains that tend to be uneven like that. If you grow the strain out on agar and isolate a pure strain, will this help and give u results more like the ones obtained w. the other strains mentioned?? Thanks!!!! If anyone has experience w. this and has stories to share I'd love to hear em. Thanks again!!!!

I hate to tell you, but you'll probably get better replies in the adv. cult.

Your post is like going into a fifth grade class and saying "alright, who can help explain the difference between capitalism and socialism". Good luck.

PS, I could be way off, but I think that pinset is more dependend upon casing application and colonization than it is on the strain.

LOL. (i'm not sure the adv. boys/gals would agree)

What your talking about is called sectoring and has the following benefits

you can sector the most rhizomorphic myc and avoid the cottony stuff (tomentose myc). this means you will avoid stroma on the casing.

Rhizomorphic mycelia run faster, form more primordia and eventually yields more.

I've got a piece of pr myc on a dish at the moment and am going to have a go at sectoring.

Ok, so my analogy was a little extreme, but when you see some of the questions and answers in this forum, you may agree.

Good info on sectoring.  (thumbs up)

isolating rhizomorphic mycelia does not guarantee better yields or even flushes, it just betters the chance. Wth multispore syringe innoculation its just the luck of the spore match often.
Some spore race have pretty bad genetics whether isolated, cloned or just pf'd.

Completly agree with you there ski

On the point of sectoring myc again...  It has been shown that as myc grows old (senescing) in general a change from rhizo to cottony looking myc occurs.  Also on agar a rhizo myc will form primordia whereas the cottony sectors in general don't.

but as anyone knows in this game expect the unexpected

Source of info (coz I have'nt completed my experiments yet)  TMC.
