Like Pheno said, if it's outside just raw-dog that shit! :freewilly:No need to soak, ferment, or any other form of prep. Just water it in once you're finished making the bed.

Can someone please tell me which fabric pots are ideal for outdoor beds? I see on amazon that there are coco coir fabric pots/liners and theres also non-coco coir fabric pots, which i assume is like some synthetic polyester kind of fabric. Are they all the same or are some better while others should be avoided?

Also how exactly should i prep fermented chips after the 2-4 week fermentation period? I know youre supposed to drain the water after theyve fermented. Something about how the air kills the microbes once you drain them, but roughly how long should they be drained before mixing the chips with spawn and placed in one of these fabric pots? Or can/should i immediately make the beds right after draining the chips?

I have access to virtually unlimited sawdust. Is anybody feeding their established beds with sawdust instead of new chips? Or even a mix of both?

Psilocybe cyanescens, year #3 I think.  Pretty sure that I just dumped a jar of grains on chips at right time one spring and forgot about them.  They have spread and I put down fresh chunks and chips after they fruit each fall, which has been the last week of October until mid November.  Zone 5/4 Wisconsin

Not really, no. Sawdust holds too much water for outdoor applications, dries out faster, and breaks down too fast even if conditions are perfect. Take it from someone who spent years trying to build a better mouse trap... Just use chips and don't bother treating them in any way at all other than watering them in when you spawn, and occasionally during droughts.

On the flip side, if you want a quick fruiting for just the first season, sawdust is literally perfect. My sawdust patches always fruited prolifically the first season (then disappeared completely).

Potency isn't only thing different.

Cubes are head heavy n not very recreational in my opinion it's a hard body n head load

Woodlovers I've gotten energy n sleep restlessness and usually a more enjoyable experience in my opinion much quieter

I guess there is hope for my attempt of Azzies in the wood chip bin in MN. It may be too late in the season to get anywhere close to having something viable this year. I may just grind up the BRF cakes and put them deep in the pile, cover with leaves to overwinter and hope for the best next season.

Ideally you want to expand them over winter and spawn in the spring.  Not sure if I'd attempt to go cakes>sterilized chips, guess it depends on how many cakes you have to play with.

Nothing yet unfortunately. This summer/fall has been messed up by super el Nino. Only good thing is it semes like we will have a long fall before the cold sets in.

Yeah, means I might actually get more than 9.75 days of Fall this year in Indiana. We're supposed to get a very mild winter, so my beds may actually do something this year.

So pretty much the same as here then. We have had as low temperatures as 5°C at night for a couple of days spread out, but up in the 20°C daytime. We've had a lot of rain and the patch is definitely alive and kicking so that's something.

I was going to put the grated cakes in the outdoor bed in the center to hope they survive the winter. Either that or I do it again in the spring
