outdoor cultivation - slugs
    #362725 - 07/28/01 10:55 PM (22 years, 7 months ago)

Does anyone else find that if they try and cultivate jars outdoor - in the garden bed, or transplant local mycelia into their garden beds, that little slugs gobble the lot???

slugs and bugs love shrooms like us.
your question made me remember once upon a time that i was hunting shroom on pastures and found a gimnopilus purpuratus with a bug underneath its cap, eating its gills. the bug left a small trail of destruction and was actually dead when found. it was fun at the time. i think butterfly/moth larvas might like it. take care everyday for annoying bugs...

i hate wit sigs / if anything i say has something in common with reality, this is a merely a coincidence.

some mushrooms depend on bugs to transplant spores. i bet slugs could help transplant spores off p cubensis.

i may, fucking drop something natural somewhere and it might grow into another piece of shit like you. i dont recognize any of you fucking people, youre not real, you came out of comic books.

AGWAY has stuff to keep the slugs away. You can also try ashes from you fireplace or grill.

if you surround your garden with steel wool slugs wont get to the fruits. i think its because the wool reacts with their slime.

Diatomacious earth will also stop slugs and many other bugs. It can be found in nearly any garden center as it is a non 'chemical' pesticide.

Or you could try surrounding your patch with a fine mesh.

Sand is great. Doesn't stand out, like let's say a circle of steel wool and/or MESH(lol) around your patch, and slugs hate it cause they get coated with it even when the sand is wet. Also, sand does not wash away as easily as ashes. But this would work also if you don't have to worry about alot of slugs. Commercial repelants and salt will eventualy seep into your patch when it rains, not to mention the ground-which is NOT GOOD.

Go to a playground and get yourself a bag of sand from the sand box. I'm sure the kiddies have bought more sand home in their shoes.

I hate slugs. They eat everything in my garden. Including my mushrooms. They even gnaw on my san pedros. I would reccomend using a barrier of diatomacious(sp?) earth around your patches. Its just like sand to you, but to a slug its like a mine field of glass. It tears those buggers a new asshole. And its pretty cheap.

I don't care about jack shit, I just wanna pick my nose!!!
