If you have a small room there that no one uses and you can afford to — work exclusively in there. Keep it as clean as possible, keep the door closed at all times, put a draft stopper under the door, and don't go in unless necessary.

Luckily we have a room like that here, since we live with a cat, a dog, and a messy housemate.

But yeah — disinfect the house — that's non-negotiable. Health comes first, man.

Hugs

I came across some cheap Rye Grass seed, which looks like Rye Berries. Shipping kills it unfortunately, but I can try to find it more locally I suppose.

Are those appropriate? Normally we get unhulled grains, and apparently rye berries are hulled for human consumption, but those are what have been traditionally used, so now I am a bit confused!

He can prep Water Agar / BRF Agar / BR Water Agar without a PC (that's personally what I do).

And buy pre-sterilized grain bags.

At least, that's what I imagine...

You can do SAB work behind a dirty toilet in a crack house. I promise you that technique is your issue if anything. You need to eliminate draft and achieve still air, not sanitize everything in a thousand square foot radius. Don't even use Lysol. Fuck Lysol. Unless you're just aiming for rosecomb mutations.

My lab is in a 75 year old basement with mold. My cats have access to it and like to jump up on my tables and fuck around often.

But yeah pressure cooker before flow hood every single time. A flow hood is a luxury, not a requirement.

I usually do no-pour, steaming for 90 minutes. Though the other day I tried pouring and it went good.

Pressure cooker before Flowood for sure.  my grow space is in a walk-in shower.

that does have a leak as well..so there's like that ugly  mildew mold stream coming out the faucet down the wall.

Shower hadn't been used in years. Lots of mold and mildew in the grout and corners. I cleaned it to the best of my ability..

but because of the water leak.. well you know.

Also some of that grout I just could not get cleaned I made a big deal out of it in the beginning and worried like crazy but I've had MANY successful grows in there since then.

and any contams I ever had surely came from my technique before ever making it out of the box or from in front of a flowood.

SAB is actually a super good option if you are worried about the workspace. I can do work in a SAB I wouldn’t dare in front of a flow hood. Get the PC, build a good SAB, worry about a hood when you’re growing pounds.

I’ve been at this for idk 4 years? I don’t think I’ll ever get a hood. SAB does it all.

Ran out of my millet (and I don't have a car), so to hold me down till I get a ride to a feedstore, I got some WBS. Canadian Tire Armstrong No Corn brand.

As you can see, it seems to be mostly split wheat. Is this something workable for grain prep?

I have been using Crack's No-prep Millet and Yoshi's as well when using WBS with a lot of success. I try to shake when the jars are still hot to avoid major clumps.

Would no prep just turn into a starchy mass?

What sort of differences do Cracked Corn teks have, due to the split grain? Is that the line of thinking I should be on?

Dude that grain is fucked man. You cant be using that 😢

Only way you can is sterilizing it AIO style and keeping it sterile until the sub is 110% colonized.

^ I know it's far from ideal, but considering people have managed to make cracked corn work, why not this? Something about the starchiness of wheat?

I will be able to use this for grounding up into flour(and feeding the neighborhood pigeons), but, I won't be needing THAT many cakes anytime soon.

Makes me wonder if Canadian Tire does this PLUS adding peanuts to their WBS on purpose to screw up cultivation. I mean, apparently its to not clog bird feeders, but you never know...

It looks like a ton of cracked corn (or is that PEANUTS), I always rock the Pennington classic, but I dunno about those.  Do a small test and boil some water, take it off the burner and let the seeds soak for 30-40 minutes, you'll know for sure.

My 8-dollar SAB has been through the wringer, taped up in a few spots, many HWFP blocks knocked up in the box.  As others have said, I have cats (dirty dander buggers), lysol is old day nonsense, turning off fans, and A/C units, or making sure your wife or kid doesn't open the door while you are working, are more important factors.

Cracked corn is garbage tho. Have people gotten a flush with it? Sure. But don’t expect those who failed with it to be as vocal about that as others are about their success. People will defend poor grain choices while dealing with trich farms, cause it worked real good once.

When I see people talking I often question their experience levels. Cause one persons great experience is often 1000’s of people’s bad time.

Exactly what he said.

Certainly you could possibly outrace it but contamination will set in. I know it won't work with slow exotics, that's for damn sure.

It's baffling that people venture towards "uncle bens" before PF tek which is insane to me.  I just saw a 16qt Presto new open box for 60 bucks on Clist.  Don't discount the 16qt, she's a workhorse, believe me I have one (no gauge, just bobber). I just put the 3rd gasket and pressure plug on not too long ago and this baby has 100's of runs, the original gasket was "stretched" out too long with oil and me just being stubborn. I went PC to WBS right from the start, but that isn't the normal for most cultivators. I had Mono Madness at the time... tunnel vision if you will, simply for the Thrill!
