You can get grafted Peyote to flower under 1 year too as you can control the temperature and can avoid the dormant period. We ran grafting competitions in this forum years ago.

Mostly_Harmless got one to flower from seed in under a year from memory.

I wanted to sift some clay US soil (PNW to entire West states)
and get it super fine. So it'll look like this!
Even cracking the soil as it grows! :tongue::heart:

gurus here. I wanna try that next season.
Though me experimenting would have to be careful and willing
to risk losing those.
That soil can be very muddy, but similar to

Looks good. Pot might be a little large but it's fine and it should do okay.

Update in a month or so, or if anything changes.



I'm not a fan of trying to replicate their natural soils in containers. It can work but I've not seen a lot of long time growth(years) using this method. It's generally plants grown somewhere else that get potted into these soils to post pretty pictures online to increase their epenOr/eclitOrUs. These people do not stick around.

If you're a new grower then you should stick to proven soil mixes and get them right before experimenting.

Your mileage may vary......

Did my 1st graft. Its a 4 years old peyote ive grown from seed. Was neglected. I added the top of the button to a trichocereus Peruvianus. Fingers crossed my 1st one works.

I had a few lophs growing years ago, didn't really take off like I thought they would, maybe bigger pot, conditions, either way, they are gone, but I do have more seeds around here somewhere in the collection.  A bit late in the year to drop now, I wouldn't mind starting some indoors in Jan/Feb and send them outside late March or early April depending on the weather.  Anyway, I had the lophs for years, and didn't get the size of a thumbnail, maybe I can figure out what happen with some research, do they need big pots for root space, it didn't seem like a big root system, but a rook no doubt with lophs, I've grown plenty of Trich seeds from misplant.

Graft looks good but if that glad wrap totally covers it you need to pop some holes in it, the lack of airflow will cause rot and a failed graft. At least that is what happened to me in the past

I actually changed it.

The rubber band knocked half of the peyote up and I strapped it down better but it was on there but I want to be sure it stays

Time will tell if it's successful or not.

I'm just wondering if you disconnected the graft union that had already formed.

If it moved when putting on the bands then you would usually re graft the piece.


Again, time will tell. Looks ok so far.

Yeah it was formed and the rubber band tore half of it up but the whole thing didn't come undone. Just one side.
Time will tell and thx for the re graft advice for next time

If you notice it shriveling then it will likely have failed and you will need to re graft it quickly.

Otherwise just leave it alone and hopefully in a week or so you will have a successful graft to watch grow. :smile:

A partial graft is still successful too btw. As long as there's a connection things usually work out fine. One side being lifted is okay. So long as one side has formed a union.

Da... wait wtf who stole my fruit?

Pretty devastating, first fruit ever has been stolen. Pretty sure it was a waterbug, they come on my balcony at night and steal bugs out of my flytraps and eat the pads off my sundews. Only consolation is it looks like 2 more fruits are forming, will be coming inside to the windowsill for a week i think

Damn. Good news tho you might have more. But yeah that would kill me. Im afraid to take Rubber bands off my graft, case a bird or something gets it. Just a fear but today rubber bands come off.

For fruit, about 2 months from the first sign of a flower. For the flower, I think it was 2 years from seed. 6 months from grafting. Times could be off a bit since I'm bad at keeping records and time flies faster the older I get so everything blends together. Oh then there's the drug use šŸ˜‚.

Lithops are rad and their requirements are a bit different from other succulents.

Make a thread if you want to discuss all of that. Or have a read about it.

I've made posts about them in the past. Fun to grow.
