favorite Lithops? * 1

I am going to grow some Lithops from seed. When i went to pick out some seed there was such a crazy variety i had no idea how to choose a species or cultivar. Any options ?

In my opinion you should grow any of the ones you personally like the look of. Once you know which ones you like then you can go about buying your seed. I myself have enjoyed growing Lithops optica 'Rubra' over the last year and this thread made me take some pictures. They've just made it to one year old and are in the process of shedding their first set of true leaves. The new green growth emerging will turn that deep ruby colour once they're introduced to the sun. Here's some pictures:





 



The process is pretty much the same as growing cactus seeds except they can be brought out of humidity a bit earlier than them and they really do need a free draining soil. One that is about 15-20% sandy loam, 10% humus and the rest made up with coarse sand and/or perlite.

I do enjoy the L. optica 'rubra'

I just exaggerate my hate for them.

I've dne a pretty good job at keeping the few I have alive :tongue:

That made me picture Dan's basement, full of chained up Lithops, begging for mercy every time he goes down there to throw them some filthy rainwater and spit on them a bit...

Mmmmmm.... I wanna grow some lithops now too... From Seed!  Thousands of them!  Have a little stone garden.

Cacti take a long time to grow... So I'd buy a few different ones and in large numbers...

I would of done better with ink too but I thought a shitty photoshop would be funnier. Yours does bring the atmosphere to life though.

yesterday i opened this thread when i woke up but didn't have time to read it, as it turned out on our way to visit my girls family her dad stopped in a plant house to pick some flowers for the cemetery and when he saw us checking some cacti asked if we wanted one... suddenly i found my self owning a Lithop :awesome:

i don't know how i feel about him for now (but at least it will be in a safe sunny balcony :smirk: )
i was surprised to open my computer right now and the first thing i saw was this thread and the spontaneous art within :lol:

Hate to break it to you but that's not a Lithops, it's a Pleiospilos. Pleiospilos nelii maybe.
