Yeah I also noticed the difference between 5V and 12V. I just figured it gives me an even wider range of operating speeds.

Can anyone tell me if this fan and usb fan speed controller will be good?

The fan itself has speed control but only hi-med-low so I'm thinking that I should get the usb speed controller to have better regulation of fan speed.

I have no skin in the game but can someone post a pic of the fan's nameplate? Id like to see its ratings please. Theres 3-24v variable transformers widely available and for cheap, but the motors would need the right contacts.

"At 5V, the fan speed ranges from 300 to 2500 RPM, while at 12V, it ranges from 1000 to 5000 RPM."

Twice the volts twice the watts twice the speed.

One would think the very minimum speed would be ideal, no?

It depends really and why I got them. I use the same humidifier for two dreamers, since one sits a lot higher then the other obviously the hose length to the one on top is longer. This results in the low dreamer getting a lot more fog and in order to keep the same conditions in both tubs(if that is what I want) I will have the top dreamer on the lowest setting(1) while the bottom dreamer with the shorter hose need to be at 2 or 3 in order to have the same conditions as the top dreamer, if that makes sense :lol:

Good thing with this dreamer placement and the 10 speed fans is that I can grow pans in the top dreamer and zapotecorum in the bottom one if I want :awesomenod:

I set my tub up but only managed to soak my pan trays, lol. I quickly figured out setting it to 85% doesn’t work. I went to set it up without referring back to this thread. 🤦‍♂️

I now have the fan set to run constantly at a low speed, then set the humidifier to 70%. I think the current tray is a lost cause, but next one may fare better. Still have one doing fine in a Fahster setup.

All of this frustrated me enough to start work on the new system. Maybe by 2027 I’ll have it all set up. :-|

Both are super easy voltages come by.

I finally got the time to read through this thread, and I'm thinking it'll help me with dialing the automated tub system I built. I've been off the site for a few years, so I didn't see this post when Pheno (Supa) posted it. Are "Dreamer tubs" a fairly recent phenomenon? Because I don't remember seeing posts about them when I was a regular.

I guess I intuitively built a version of these, only my fan is built in to the DIY fogger bucket instead of the fruiting chambers, and am using one 80mm fan for both tubs. Also, my fog and fan blow out under the lip of the trays.



I had the system on my front porch, but moved it inside the main part of the house because the temps swung too much on the porch. I thought that's what was causing the following issue, but i'm still having it. I've been trying to use a little desk fan as a purge fan on the "Work2" socket of the humidistat to air out the tubs when the RH spikes after the sun goes down. And during the day the RH drops and the fogger but has to run to keep it up.

But running the fan 24/7, and just using the humidistat to control the ultrasonic does seem to solve the issue of needing a second fan. I got a layer of overlay on all my Pan trays, and thought it was because the system was staying too wet at night. But seeing everyone's Dreamer tub Pans wet, it seems like my problem was probably not enough FAE. I tried forking the overlay to see if that would help, then they just grew more overlay again. I scraped the overlay off the trays last night, made some new casing tonight, and will re-case them tomorrow. I plugged the fan in 24/7 tonight, and recalibrated the humidistat so the alarm doesn't keep going off when the RH spikes. And tomorrow I'm going to replace the fogger exhaust flex tube with 2" pvc tomorrow to allow more air through. Also, I like the roasting trays y'all use to raise the trays up off the bottom so the heating pads don't cook the substrates. I've always just used water in the bottom of the totes, but I'm gonna add the racks too.

I have a couple questions for you fine folks...

1. Does anyone else have the same issue of your totes' RH spiking at night?

2. How low do you set the differential for the fogger to kick back on. I know Henry gave an example of 5%, but is that what y'all find best?

Here's pics of what I assumed was overlay. It was rubbery, not fluffy. The culture is supposedly an isolate of Pan cyan "Estero".

Just find a starting point and go from there. If it's too wet, turn the fan up a little bit or turn down the humidity a little bit. Rinse and repeat. Then as mushrooms mature, pay attention to the morphology. If youre getting fuzzy feet, then you need more air. If you have mycelium forming on the mushroom caps, then you need less humidity. Reading a grow is a learning curve and no one can tell you exactly how to do it. It's just trial and error

So, question for the crew. And no I don’t remember the entire 16 pages of this thread I read a few months ago. To start, I put the fan in the wrong spot. It’s on the side opposite of the fogger, not under it. If that is the source of all that ails the tub, just let me know now. 😂

Running pans in a chamber like this, what is a good target humidity? I suspect I have been cycling the air too often, and had the fogger cranked up too high. I am not sure if the cake was too wet or not enough fresh air before the fogger kicked in.

Fogger was set to 85 to start, that kept it running far too often. That only lasted a day before dialing it back.

Got all the way down to 70% before I admitted to myself that I killed the tray. Oh well.

This was on the lowest fan setting of the linked model on 120v, always on. I’m thinking I need to have it run on a timer, and instead of a low setting, crank it way up to clear the whole tub as quickly as possible before the fogger kicks in.

Here for thoughts and advice.

It should be easy to just move the fogger hose and plug the old hole with Silicone.

Yea, it’s what I was afraid of. The fogger inlet is about 2” above the fan, on opposite sides.

In seeing how the fan dried out the tub, I realized I had to have done something wrong, because evap wasn’t happening on the trays despite the FAE. The fan being too high up, after reviewing the images, makes complete sense now.

I have tried more then a couple different placement of fogger, sensor and fan. This is what has worked best for me this far, my tubs are 45cm(18") high.
