Subs popping today on old wild tobacco wood. Usually about 3 wks before Dorrigo woodchip subs, which are my favourites.
Unlike bush subs around here those woodchip ones show very little bluing before harvest. More psychedelic in effect too with minimal body load.

They aren't so dreamy in effect like these local subs are, with a more intense trip at two thirds the dose.

Awesome, That gave me the kick I needed to get in the car and head up for a drive.

Found subs in red clay on Myrtle Scrub scenic drive "next to cells river road" about 850m hight , these ones were strange! just differnt to most others , going to look closer at these ones!

Then I hit a nice little spot in some old pine plantations

my very top spots 1000m+ were dry but these microclimates were well worth the drive.

Psilocybe tasmaniana

Psilocybe papuana About an hour from home in a place I've spent most of my life visiting,I was so focused on other people's finds and didn't listen when everyone told me to look close to home!, My good mate sporeexchange was the one to spot this one and we didn't find any others but I can now say I have seen, smelt, felt & photographed this extremely elusive mushroom!

Last pic cap looks a bit viscid for P.papuana. Sure it's not P.tasmaniana?Anyway good luck. Second look stem looks right so good on you.

Many thanks mate! DNA come back 5 days later and it was 100% match to your finds! Interestingly enough the zaps are also matching the paps! I found some more zaps very close to home in the state forest just today, Ill post photos below but its kinda looking like what we call papuana and Section Zapotecorum might just be phenotypic variations of each other. idk Im letting the professionals take over from here but that's what all the ITS sequences are pointing to so far.

Sect. Zapotecorum keep popping up around me everywhere. nailed down some spots that stay damp within compartments of state forest. Recently bulldozed off-runs seem to be the most prolific, but this year has shown they grow from Victoria to Queensland, maybe all year, rain permitting.

Thank you so much Mate!

Found a Cube in the coldest days of winter o.0 Got a tub of cow shit collected for the garden from last summer and this guy popped up.

Oh and work has been done on the sect. semilanceatae c.f tasmaniana ,Its now appropriately known as 'pseudotasmaniana'

Personally after reading over Watling,Chang & Johnston's papers I think the original was more than likely just subaeruginosa growing through dung.

Wow! So temperature doesn't have an effect on fruiting for cubes? Or is this an anomaly?

Just location I'd say, My part of NSW is like this in that anything can grow, Its only really getting down to 6-8C at night but still getting to 22c in the day ,an anomaly yes but one I keep finding each year atleast once without looking much.
