I'm sorry man I fucking folded. It was to hot and the cravings have been at my heels for weeks. God fucking dam it. They sell this shit everywhere it's so hard to resist. Gonna go live in the woods and grow some weed and shrooms and get away from this poison.

That can happen to anyone, the important thing is that you are here, alive. Continue attending your meetings, get a sponsor, stop drinking immediately so that you can internalize AA literature when you read it.

Look for guidance from the groups you go to. That's the advice I was given from other alcoholics with more experience in the program and it's worked somewhat; I make it complicated.

It works; it really does one day at a time if I give it a shot with honesty and an open mind.

A PRICELESS GIFT

July 21

By this time in all probability we have gained some measure of release from our more devastating handicaps. We enjoy moments in which there is something like real peace of mind. To those of us who have hitherto known only excitement, depression, or anxiety – in other words, to all of us – this newfound peace is a priceless gift.

TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 74

I am learning to let go and let God, to have a mind that is open and a heart that is willing to receive God's grace in all my affairs; in this way I can experience the peace and freedom that come as a result of surrender. It has been proven that an act of surrender, originating in desperation and defeat, can grow into an ongoing act of faith, and that faith means freedom and victory.

"THE GOOD AND THE BAD"

July 22

"My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad."

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 76

The joy of life is in the giving. Being freed of my shortcomings, that I may more freely be of service, allows humility to grow in me. My shortcomings can be humbly placed in God's loving care and be removed. The essence of Step Seven is humility, and what better way to seek humility than by giving all of myself – good and bad – to God, so that He may remove the bad and return to me the good.

I ASK GOD TO DECIDE

July 23

"I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows."

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 76

Having admitted my powerlessness and made a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God, as I understand Him, I don't decide which defects get removed, or the order in which defects get removed, or the time frame in which they get removed. I ask God to decide which defects stand in the way of my usefulness to Him and to others, and then I humbly ask Him to remove them.

A PRAYER FOR ALL SEASONS

July 31

God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, Courage to change the things we can, And wisdom to know the difference.

TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 125

The power of this prayer is overwhelming in that its simple beauty parallels the A.A. Fellowship. There are times when I get stuck while reciting it, but if I examine the section which is troubling me, I find the answer to my problem. The first time this happened I was scared, but now I use it as a valuable tool.

By accepting life as it is, I gain serenity. By taking action, I gain courage and I thank God for the ability to distinguish between those situations I can work on, and those I must turn over. All that I have now is a gift from God: my life, my usefulness, my contentment, and this program. The serenity enables me to continue walking forward.

Alcoholics Anonymous is the easier, softer way.

"MADE A LIST . . ."

August 08

Made a list of all persons we had harmed, . . .

TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 77

When I approached the Eighth Step, I wondered how I could list all the things that I have done to other people since there were so many people, and some of them weren't alive anymore. Some of the hurts I inflicted weren't bad, but they really bothered me.

The main thing to see in this Step was to become willing to do whatever I had to do to make these amends to the best of my ability at that particular time.

Where there is a will, there's a way, so if I want to feel better, I need to unload the guilt feelings I have. A peaceful mind has no room for feelings of guilt. With the help of my Higher Power, if I am honest with myself, I can cleanse my mind of these feelings.

Apologies for not checking in here that often. Kind of just try to forget alcohol even exists now which has been working, but wanted to share this story.

There has been beer in my fridge since I quit drinking. It just felt weird not to have at least one in there, but it's way in the back so I forget about it most of the time now.

I went to get gas & fill up some water bottles and encountered a homeless guy that asked for money. Only having my card, I told him sorry but asked if he needed anything. He said no, just wanted a few bucks for another 211. We started chatting while I filled up water bottles, nice guy, just down on his luck.

Forgot to get gas, drove home, realized what had happened and decided to grab that ice cold Delirium Tremens ale and bring it to him since I had to go back there anyways. To my surprise he savored that beer and even offered to pump my gas, but I declined.
Hopefully not enabling an alcoholic, but it turned out as a win-win; one less beer to tempt me and it made that guy happy.

Give away your alcohol if need be!
244 days off the sauce. Stay strong!
