I’m not really trying to justify that at all actually, that’s medication. We had a discussion about this earlier with Nektar and she was asking how it works in meetings.

Seems like you try to justify it fine until someone actually tries to debate you with logic.

Ight man. This is Aa, if you don’t have a higher power why are you even here on this forum? No need to be dramatic, that has never been a debate, I’m not even debating that with you, that’s a fact. That’s Aa man, sorry to offend you, I’m just not getting the same vibe. We’re here to work the program, we can’t without God (higher power), and we can’t even begin to have a conversation if you haven’t surrendered to that fact. It’s pretty simple but not always easy. Aa will help lead you there obviously.
Bless and love

because i'm a recovering alcoholic who has been sober and attending meetings for 7 years

you think you know the only path but you don't

Are you serious? You mean the path for millions of recovering addicts and alcoholics alike? That path? We don’t need that? Like the first 3 steps? Might as well just get rid of those? Come on. Not only can I not say “God” but now you won’t even admit to the fact that Aa is all about surrendering to a higher power and helping others. Your ratings explain what it looks like without one.

ignorant attitudes like yours alienate "the alcoholic who still suffers" and prevents people from getting help

the steps are a "suggested" path not the only path

worrying about ratings is for simpletons- i've never rated anyone ever - only a child would give af about stars - i'm grown

Guys please stop arguing in the AA forum.  We have many forums where we can debate this stuff or use PMs or something.

This forum needs to be focused on recovery.

I am just afraid of this devoling into something negative.

Ignored them the other day, all good. I guess arguing needs to happen when people in this Aa forum claim they don’t need a higher power. I will never not call that out, sorry. It’s the only way it works, like it or not idc. As addicts, we know that we have no other choice? We hit rock bottom, we’re fucked if we don’t ask for help. “You think you have it figured out huh?” Lol idk if I ever will man, but I pray you do.

you don't need a higher power to get sober

i'm proof

there are different paths and different ways to utilize aa

it's case by case

LOL, Great to see you still around FSR! In my case, I can still taste the difference between a Budweiser and a Yuengling as well as a good bourbon in my mind like it was yesterday. This after 24 yrs sober.
I am alcoholic and always will be and I have proven to myself that one drink will get you drunk so I stay the fuck away from it.

Great discussion and I agree with both of you! If it works it works, personally I would probably be open to talk about it during a meeting knowing full well I might get discouraged, that’s okay, Aa is a place of discussion and honesty, if I am not ready to accept the fact that most people probably won’t agree, Aa won’t work for me. I think there are some people in Aa who are more willing to have that conversation, lol pick your right battles I guess. Sometimes I just don’t think it’s worth it, I can save people who aren’t as familiar with Aa on here too, introduce them to the program. God is my go to and mushrooms will always be secondary.

I love this! This is sooo right! I am sure that the man who started AA, Bill W, is soooo happy that they are using psilocybin in research studies right now to try to help chronic alcoholics! It always kind of pissed me off that he was shunned for his forward thinking when it came to LSD and they all forgot that it was his same forward thinking that started this miraculous program!

Remember that everyone in AA is sick and that some are sicker than others. Some have open minds and some closed....they are keeping themselves sober, all of them. This is why it is important to go to different meetings with different people and find the person that you gibe with that has what you want. That will be your sponsor.

As far as the AA/ drugs thing goes....I love that you quoted "Doctor Alcoholic Addict" which was from the 3rd edition. Funny thing is that they kept the very same story in the 4th edition but changed the name to get rid of the word "addict" lol. It's now called "Acceptance is the Answer". The only reason they didn't eliminate the story completely is because people quote a page out of that story all the time...pg 449 in 3rd edition and pg 417 in the 4th. (By the way, my sponsor loved that page and actually died 8 yrs ago in October....time of death 04:49.) The political correctness here pisses me off....just remember that AA is perfectly imperfect and is the one wrench that will indeed fit every nut....just look around and find your happy place....then GET INVOLVED, lol.:peace::sunny:
