Does it make any sense to go from LC to Ager?
I got LC syringes from a reputable source but I've never bought from them before, I'm trying to start my first grow and id like it to be successful but I don't want waste the time of it would be overkill.

Yes do it every time. It'll save you time/money if you find any contam earlier in the process. It'll also be easier to get a refund/exchange if you have pics of the agar. Plus its good learning.

Never trust an lc.  Even if you made it yourself. or trust the person making it..  always always test lc before use.

i will try 150 minutes because i don't have an instant pot, so i worry that the water could run out or that things could get unsafe. i have to admit that i'm afraid of pressure cookers exploding, even though this is rare:hehehe:

the good thing about the instant pot is that it's safer, from what i've heard, and you can simply set a timer and that's it. i think it also handles the pressure in a smarter way, which means the water doesn't run out as quickly. so you don't even need to monitor anything, just put the jars inside, set the timer, and go do something else.

i'll run it for 150 minutes and then wait a few days without inoculating to see if any bacteria grow. if it doesn't work, i'll increase the sterilization time. thanks for the comment!

hello guys. is possible to sterilize oats in a 12psi PC? if yes, is 120 minutes is enough for jars of 220-500ml?

1 no
2 n/a

you *can* compensate for lower pressure with longer cook times.  there's a formula somewhere that you can follow to determine your PC time, but whoever needs it can google that now that they know it exists.

I don't need to be redundantly corrected after I already did that.

Here is the relevant information, or at least a good place to start:

I also do not know about the mushiness of the grains, or the reservoir of a standard insta or multicooker, whether it is a small pot with handles, stainless steel, whatever.
However if you do the math in the last link I sent you I think you will find your answer. I have not dealt with them myself, I have a 23qt Presto and a 25qtAA I use standard most time. That is just lucky being blessed to have good equipment, though.

It's perfectly plausible you glossed over it, sometimes suprises me how many people don't take the time to read before they post. either way no worries and you're right.

You can go back to agar (squeeze the syringe for a drop, do not hit the plunger), from LC, but in my opinion, if you are going that route, you should just get a swab or print.  Most reputable LC's are good as is (unknown company, don't shoot up 7 jars), if you want to do a test, get some 4oz jelly jars, it's like 2 tablespoons of seeds, if it's clean, your ahead of the game, if not, you know it's dirty, no loss, it's all data and may be entitled to a refund, or agar cleanup situation anyway (if you can). Agar isn't required to see if the LC is clean or not, and it's easy to get too wrapped up into AGAR, believe me... I know.

Always test LCs ... Always. You claim you want success but here we are trying to skip steps.

Are you basically saying to test on grain instead of agar? You know the agar isn't what you inoculate with right? Your swab or print comment left me wondering. Too wrapped up? Whatcha mean?

I mean, I'm a cultivator, and it's easy to get wildly crazy with plates, and transfers and... yeah... the old searching for a monoculture rings a bell, but I just wanna grow... my bro.  Clean is clean whether it's LC, agar, or G2G, it's all the same to me.  But hey, we all have different goals in this hobby, not exactly sure what you meant by "You know the agar isn't what you inoculate with right?"  maybe you are confused or whatever, but I've done tissue to grain with success, many ways to the finish line, and agar for me, is a steppingstone, nothing more.

The test is done on agar because it's easier to detect contams with it's 2D view. You don't inoculate with the test. Instead, you then use your LC once you know it's clean.

Clean is clean like you said, but you can prove it first so you don't waste supplies.

How often is everyone using fae on Martha tents?

I had a fan that came with my tent. It died due to humidity/water. I had it running 24/7. Wondering if this is too much and I should be using it less? I had it below the trays blowing up, doubt it was doing much anyways, but it was always on. Now I’ve been hand-fanning a couple times a day with a piece of foam, not ideal

Any fanning is not ideal. Seems to me a martha is large enough to support fae without fans.

I don't consider two tablespoons of wbs a waste, it's like 40 cents a pound.  The point was, or is, why would I buy an LC from a vendor and not trust the work, only to go backwards anyway.  Agar is the beginning, that's why I mentioned a swab or a print, and there are plenty of clean LC's, I was getting LC's off of fleabay back when it was unheard of.  But hey, you don't know the struggles of getting anything other than regular cubes to play with in the Golden State.

I have proved it to vendors (in the past) on agar (trich in 2.5 days either way), grain, it doesn't matter (I'd actually rather waste 2tablespoons of seeds over a plate), I guess we just see things differently, and that's fine.

"The test is done on agar because it's easier to detect contams with it's 2D view."

Maybe for you it's easier, but not the point, discovering contamination is all the same, or being ahead of the game... for G2G transfer (I choose the latter, I run through genetics), but if you are trying to prove your work is better than an average vendor with proper equipment by "testing" there LC, by all means... continue.

What do you guys do with all the shrooms you grow? I constantly give tons away to my friends but i still have such a massive surplus. I love growing it more than I or anyone else can consume it.

I send mine back to the compost pile, within a week, the pile enjoyed the snack, no remnants left to be found.

I don't use vendors and I routinely check my own work. I am in the Golden State and I do know the struggles.

Trich contam?
It’s on black rice so any of the colouration is just from that. There is no green. But it seems to be some contam based on the demarcation and apparent texture/ colour difference. I’ll have a better idea once I open it but it would be good to get some opinions so I know to graveyard it before even taking a closer look. Please forgive the spawn choice, I’m at the early stages of learning and did it more as an experiment than a sound tek choice
