Strawboss has been in short supply lately. The rebellion took out one of the processing plants. I got one of the last bags in my whole State, luckily it lasts a while.

Yeah a few things can make them do that.  Most often it's inbreeding depression.

But sometimes bacteria etc.

Yours look healthy otherwise, so I think it's inbreeding depression.

I really hope you are wrong this time haha! It is a print from Gordo and the only one i have. The mycelium looks grows fast and looks super healthy.

I searched and think i gave it too much water yesterday and maybe too less FAE.

If it's ttbvi, yeah that's the most inbred cyan 🤷‍♀️  Because it's popular, and the lifecycle is fast.  I started working on back crossing it with a wild collection from the Virgin Islands, but I haven't finished or released it.

But can see some here in the not backcrossed bvi.  Generally they won't drop spores either.



Most of the 'not trops' going around do it too.  This was a collection that pinned well, but spored poorly.  And was ran for over a decade by the same cultivator.

This is a big concern of mine as I work with my TTBVI culture.

I see other people with these gorgeous giant TTBVI caps, but mine are always underdeveloped and small.

I'm chasing environmental conditions to try to make things as good as I can make them, but if genetics are the limiting factor than I'm basically just hitting my head on the wall.

I think I need to get a good rh meter. Something that will give me concrete data, rather than just reading fruits.

The fact is that i used your AIO jar guide and from 8 jars only one colonised.( It was more empty) Put this to fruiting and did not use Gyspsum, peat or hydrated lime. (Because i don't have it yet) Only used CV and manure and still got fruits.

And yesterday i sprayed on lots of water with a syringe which can cause limp stems according to Google. I have to learn how totake care of them since it's my first pan cyan grow ever.

I have 27 grain jars cooking and 2 days ago i shaked a bunch and they are already recovered a lot. This and the agar plates shows me the mycelium is very strong and aggressive. Is inbred mycelium looking and performing so healthy?

Whats the point of Gordo sending al those prints if they are shit? I don't believe it. There should be many more reports of this then i assume

Inbred mycelium tends to perform very well in regard to vegetation and fruiting.

Because the more closely related the nuclei are, the easier time they have operating the cell.  But if they're inbred, they have trouble making spores.  And have difficulty sensing gravity (the nuclei effectively function as a level inside the cell).

I don't have any photos, but I used to have a sporeless strain of oyster mushrooms.  And it would do the same thing as far as weird looking fruits growing in odd directions.  Not every time, but it was a strong tendency.

We can see it here in the sporeless GT thread too.  Which again is a strain that's been around for a long time and is heavily inbred.

As far as Gordo 🤷‍♀️  I won't speak to his motivations.  But it's also possible to pull more genetically compatible spores from the same print.

Like this culture that came from the same print as the ttbvi I posted above.  It did great.

And I should add, they're not truly sporeless, they just have a lot of difficulty making and dropping spores.  So the spore count can be very low.

Some folks consider this a feature, rather than a bug.  The oyster mushroom strain I mentioned before is popular because oyster spores can clog up equipment and cause allergic reactions for harvesters.

And it's not always inbreeding that does it, it's really more of a sign of mating incompatibility.  Which does tend to show up more when a variety has inbreeding depression.

We can see it in this cross too though (bvi*king I think ).  And I assure you this was not environmental, I know half a dozen people that grew this same culture.  And I imagine there's at least another half dozen folks that did too.  No one ever got f1 spores.  And when I scoped it it took me about 30 minutes to find a single spore on the gill fragment.



Same issue with gravity.  Though it's not as pronounced as in the curly mushrooms you posted.

Hi tree frog I got those trays that you recommended me for my dreamer tub



I soon have two jars of grain spawn of bisporus ready

Do you remember how much substrate would fit well in those trays?

I was thinking of doing 2 qt spawn and 3-4 qt substrate but it might be too thick im not sure.

Would you recommend me to do two trays with 1 qt of spawn each or one tray with both in?

Also does bisporus prefer thicker or thinner substrates?
