I would add a touch more casing.

I use gray lids with a 1/4" hole and SFD stickers on both sides.

I also use polyfil, but grass seed gets stuck in it so I don't currently have them in rotation.

Mine holds up real well on both plastic and metal, but I have switched to thich SFD's glued with high temp silicone. They seem to allow more GE and last very long.

I have had the same SFD's for a LONG time, they last forever, you may have to glue them back on using the F out of them, but you don't even need foil with SFD's.  My first lids were tyvek (from envelopes), 2 cycles, then I decided to buy 25 cent filters, but I've used poly in a pinch, or even two layers of MP tape, it all works just prefer not wasting foil.  If your jars are too wet, then your grain prep is off, fresh out of the PC we all get condensation, but a few shakes and the next day they sound like BB's in a jar almost.  I personally don't like plastic strainers with slits in them, I prefer a fine mesh metal strainer, dries the grains thorughly, the plastic ones can pool up at the bottom and they will need further drying.

I have some Bisporus spawn ready. I don’t have anymore liquid fert left. Can I run CV and casting and get decent results, or should I want and order some more?
Also this is my first time getting Bisporus jars that are clean. I have cased cyans with jiffy, verm, and CC, should I do something different for these?

I had poor results without nutrients for my Bispo's, can you get cow manure compost? 30% mixed with 70% coir works. If the casing worked for other pans it should be fine.

:ilold:

That is understandable, they are beautiful when they sleep  And just for the record, I use the same casing for everything that likes one, only thing I change for some species is depth.

Yeah, not all of the stickers are the same.

And I'm finicky about my sense of touch and can be obsessive.

That's why I don't like to use RTV, not because my way is best.  I just don't like the way it feels on my skin or the mess it makes.

Edit:  in other words, don't assume the way I do it is the best way.  It's just my preferences.

Well said, the "best" way is what is easiest and accessible for the individual... clean spawn is all that matters, poly, tyvek, MP, makes no difference and you won't be thinking about what filter you used harvesting your work.  Brings me back to open air inoculations with a flamed needle and spore syringes from Pukester... only place I could get something to play with back then.  Memory Lane... must be the Mary Jane Mayne!

6qt unmodified shoebox, offset lid (dubbed for a day or two with a tall fruit )... LETS GO!

is a 1 to 1 spawn to substrate ratio pretty good for pans? Will it increase success rate?
