Brazilian needs some advice in cultivation.
    #596215 - 04/02/02 06:31 AM (22 years, 10 months ago)

Greetings to all.

I live in Brazil and it would like to contact some Brazilian that already has experience in cultivation of mushrooms.

I have been making some attempts, but where i live is difficult to get some of the necessary
ingredients, mainly the rye grain. I have been doing some experiments with wheat grain
and "oats flakes" ( I didn't get oats grain in commerce) but the substrates a sticky and
impossible to shake. I would not like to use cow dung.

I have been using spores of Psilocybe Cubensis Equador,
that I acquired from www.mushmush.nl but I think the growth of the mycelium are very slow.

So, I would like to know from a Brazilian the following:

Which the best substrate to be used here in Brazil?

Which the psilocybe species that better adapts to our climate??

Does some special care exists ? Can the jars be put in an styrofoam box ?

thanks in advance.

Hey,
Have you read the PF Tek yet? Try these websites...
www.fanaticus.com <--- Original PF Tek
www.fungifun.org/pf/pf_en.htm <---- PF Tek for Simple Minds (very good! :P )

Try those websites out... And if all else fails, read the FAQ  (the link is in my sig )

Good luck!

Hello!

I had already researched that also.

The problem is that I don't get to find vermiculite ! (or a good substitute)

The people in the stores even know what is that.
My city is not exactly a "small city. It has at least about 250000 inhabitants.
I sought in all of the gardening stores, "building materials" stores, and I almost
went at the butcher shop to ask...

The vermiculite that I got had a very fine grain, and it did not work in mixing with rice flour.
It produced a no porous mass and the mycelium didn't get to grow through the "grains".

I Didn't get to find vermiculite like it appears in the pictures, having the shape of "small stones '.
Everything that I got was a "vermiculite flour".

I researched in several sources before posting here.
And because that i am seeking a Brazilian that had the same difficulties.

The main ingredients of the PF tek are not impossible to find in my country,
but they are found in the "state capitals", very far away from where I live.
To acquire them by mail would increase my cost$ a lot.

As i said, I got some progress using wheat grains, but I am finding the process of growth very slow.
Where i live, the room temperature is about 40 centigrade degrees sometimes.

So, it doesn't make difference if I have a "simple mind" as PF tek says, if I cannot find the
ingredients of the recipe.

Thank you, anyway.

hi there

i'm not from brazil but we speak the same language (i'm from portugal)...I have the same prob with vermiculite, so i use rye grain. As for the rye, i can find it on health and macro-biotic food stores/supermarkets. have you tried that kind of commerce yet? The species of mushroom you should use is P. cubensis as it is easier to grow. Ecuador is a good strain. If you need further help in portuguese feel free to PM me (although i'm also a newbie).

Boa sorte!

Oi.

No Inverno nunca fica friu demais. Mas não sei quais as temperaturas ai.
