Also I'm gonna be real, I'm just excited to make a flag for my cakes. Ever since I saw them in CW2 it's been on my mind.

I know I saw it in another thread… but do we need to wait to Sept. 1 to inoculate? Haven’t done this tek since I learned it here in 2006-2007ish and used steam to steralize…. Just to inoculate in open air

I bought everything I need, just need to plan my timeline.

Do some practice runs! I had never done BRF before and started messing with it at the tail end of CW2 and still had a couple cakes that could have made it in time. So would assume we aren’t allowed to inoculate until Sept 1

Count me in! Happy to see that the last one opened up to coir vs verm.

So inoculation itself would only happen on September 1st?

CAKE WARS is all about growing mushrooms using PF Tek and it's minor variations.

This post is a preliminary place-holder and save-the-date announcement for the commencement of CAKE WARS III, to start on Sept 1, 2026. More details and announcements will be placed here as we get closer to the date, but for now, PREPARE FOR WAR!

Sept 1, 2026 - put it on your calendars. Stick a note to the refrigerator, the bathroom mirror, the dash of your car, and the front door to your home. CAKE WARS III will be an event not to be missed!

To help fan the flames a bit, here are two important reference links to our most recent prior CAKE WARS:

CAKE WARS I (Dec 1, 2025 - Apr 11, 2026)
CAKE WARS II (Apr 15, 2026 to Jun 30, 2026)

Half-pint (250mL) wide mouth jars are strongly recommended for speed, and one can always use jars of their own choosing.

For a good reference on the PF Tek, see Ziran’s Updated PF-Tek 2023

Another good resource is the Official PF Tek Cultivation Thread

If I can use my modified "clean out" recipe I'm in!

Perfect opportunity to practice getting back in the game. I look forward to competing with ya'll starting Sept. 1, which is also hopefully the date I'll be moving into my new grow-quarters, I mean apartment. Much love.

Does the cake need to psilocybe producing? I'm thinking of doing reishi cakes...

I will assume Cake Wars 2 rules will be the minimum base line.
