Re: Why is air fryer not better than dehydrator? [Re: Chiron098] * 3

It’s already been said how difficult it is to actually measure these things, but I feel like it’s not taken into enough consideration here. Every paper I’ve read on this has been mostly junk science with poor controls.

I know you guys don’t like aNeCdOtAl evidence, but 5+ year old powder has bioassayed completely fine. No, dry fruits in a jar at room temp in the dark aren’t going to lose half their potency in a year, and even if they do on paper that loss isn’t reflected in tangible trip experience, which is all that actually matters.

The topic is pointless insofar as it’s being hashed out here. Rev is currently the most important voice on this topic. All that’s happening in this thread is 2 people peeing towards each other not realizing the wind is blowing their own pee back in their faces.

The Rev proved that heat degrades potency a few days ago in his latest experiment.

I meant if you want to hear it from the horses mouth ask The Rev. Heating his extraction in a vacuum chamber led to a 20% loss of potency compared to no heat. Results don't get more conclusive than that.

I agree that is impossible to truly measure it without outcome data, but that is useless I have to disagree.

Tangible experience is not all that matters. Dosage matters in therapeutical context. Thus is not useless.

My point was also not just about storage, but actually by accumulating bad practices. At some point, a small fraction of loss can become a huge fraction of loss because of negligence in everything.

The point is: if you half ass cultivation, half ass dehydration, half ass storage, half ass extraction, half ass everything, at some point this WILL be measurable and will actually be significant.

Thus even though they don't matter much alone, they matter in a context of usage.

I know you are saying that to avoid overthinking and or, paralysis by analysis, but this type of thought is only to avoid *OVER*thinking, not actual every type of thinking, analysis or conversation.

extraction works different to biomass, as the molecules are not protected by absolute nothing.

when you add heat to vacuum the boiling point reduces drastically, so even 40C is enough to boil.

the part where the heat is also touching the glass can also be way hotter than the water itself, degrading the psylocibin.

this means that heat degrading extractions in this condition is normal and expected, and has absolutely nothing to do with dehydration.

another stuff is, HEAT DOES DEGRADE PSILOCYBIN, IS ONLY THAT ENZYMES ARE WORSE. you seem to fail to realize that, and i said it like 5 times.

like always you pick a data, misinterpret it and say "oh, i was right look at that", even though Rev itself had said you are wrong, and that you are "arguing for argument sake".

Okay, I have been deliberately following but not joining this thread for days. I prefer not to feed the trolls. But since failure of reading comprehension (probably deliberate) is being used to misrepresent my research, I will make a small clarification.

The results of a recent project do show that heated tea made under vacuum resulted in lower potency than vacuum tea without heat. That is a very specific example that proves that heating tea under vacuum produces less potency than unheated tea under vacuum. Extrapolating anything other than that without testing is nothing but guessing. What happens in an aqueous extraction may not be indicative of what happens to whole fruit in a dehydrator. There are way too many variable to base any kind of intelligent assumption that one proves another.

The way to prove which temperature is most efficient for drying fruit is to dry fruit under several different conditions and temperatures and test the results for potency. Absolutely no reputable person of science would claim otherwise. To date I have not found a single study where this has been done. There have been published studies that have tested psilocybin and psilocin degradation in various aqueous extractions and conditions. Some clearly better than others. Many also mention that they follow an accepted practice of keeping drying temperatures low, but none quote the proof of that best practice, they just list that as the drying method used. As a person of science myself (as far as you can believe that on an anonymous forum) I will reserve judgement until I see the results of that exact study and not untested extrapolations of anything else.

No argument about the potential results of chemical reactions will hold up against the results of actual experimentation. If the facts do not support the argument, the argument is wrong. Period. Maybe heat is better, maybe unheated is better. Testing results are the only argument that matters. If the results do not match the expectation it is time to examine the expectation, not the result. If results of comparison are minimal or negligible, it comes down to convenience and objectives. "Better" itself is a loaded term. The final goal will have a large influence on what is better. Speed vs power consumption. Immediate use vs long term storage. The convenience of capsules vs gummies. Reduced volume powdered vs bag appeal whole. So many considerations that affect what might be better for me compared to what is better for your situation.

I have levied accusations of cherry picking data to support an untested hypothesis. I have also speculated at the motivation behind such intense desire for validation on an anonymous forum. Call that ad hominem or personal attack if that is your interpretation. I said what I said. Again, I feel that it says more about reading comprehension and bleeds towards DARVO tactics, but I assume that will just escalate the cycle. So that is as close to direct interaction as I will allow myself. I value my time more than I value the opinion of a poor faith arguer. I don't need to win. I just like to share my work.

I do have some dried teas dehydrated using several different temperatures and air flows. I will be testing them shortly but I hesitate to share the results for fear that they will be used to further muddy the discussion. My reasoning is that dehydrating extractions is not the same as dehydrating fruits. The results of one may not be indicative of the other. Until the fruit drying comparison is made any cherry picked extrapolation will still be guess work and nothing more. I hate that I feel the need to self regulate information flow. But I despise the idea that my work will be misrepresented as endorsement of fallacious nonsense.

Dammit, I got piss on my bunny slippers.

almost nothing, but it has to be done in a real good freeze drying machine, so the temperature doesn't rise until water is 100% removed.

because if it rises, the cell that is now damaged because it has been ruptured by the ice glasses will simply mix psip, psil and psilocybin all together and oxidize everything.

even though, the good thing is that if fails you will be able to see, as blacking or blueing will happen for sure.

Could I suggest you try testing air dried fruits against 70C dried fruits as a future experiment? I'd be quite happy to chip in on the cost of the test kits. A potent extract begins with potent fruits after all and as people seem to trust you and your judgement implicitly you'd the perfect man for the job. And as the experiment hasn't been done before in a way that truly mirrors home cultivation drying it would be ground-breaking research.

Freeze dryer fruits are cool but they’re super fragile and absorb ambient moisture FAST.

I want a freeze dryer for veggie chips and fruits 🤤

So Rev, I'm sorry if these questions seems dumb, but I was wondering. How would you go about doing dehydrator temperature tests?

Is it possible to test the fresh fruit's potency to even know what is lost during drying?
