Custom home-built dehydrators thread

Check out shroomzey's photo here. I plan on building more or less the same thing to air dry my fruits, and then I will finish them off in desiccant containers. I do not plan on using a heater, but this is only for reasons of efficiency and simplicity, rather than any concerns of potency loss.

I'd like to hear the opinions of those who have built their own dehydrators. If you have photos, please post them (ideally from multiple angles.) If you have blueprints or schematics, even better

Were there any issues you ran into while building or using the dehydrator? Any unexpected things come up? If you set the mushrooms on a screen as part of the drying process, what size screen did you use and how did that work out for you? Do you integrate a heater into your project?

I don't want to hear "buy a Nesco" etc. etc.
I don't want to have a debate about whether heat affects potency
I don't want to hear how the raccoon who lives in the yard of the guy who gave your aunt a boob job just spreads his shrooms out on a piece of cardboard with a fan blowing over them. That's awesome and all, but I'm itching to build something

I just want to talk about home-built dehydrator projects.

I've made some changes to the design since I first posted the pictures of it.  At first I thought it best to have the fan blowing down on the trays, but now I have the fan flipped so that it is blowing the air up, pulling the air through the bottom and out through the top.  I place a small space heater at the bottom to help with the process, it doesn't get nearly as hot as a dehydrator, but the heat speeds up the process none the less.  So I would suggest you add a heating element to it, remember the air also oxidizes the alkaloids, so I'd say the long exposure to air is just as much of a concern than heat.  I prefer to use my nesco, I run it almost 12-14 hours a day now with my rotation and I'll use my big one when I hit a fat flush at one harvest.  Even with the space heater it still takes 36-48 hours depending on the size of the fruits to get them close to cracker dry, which I'll then plop them into the dehydrator just to speed up the process.  I'm not here to debate the whole heat potency issue, but just letting you know I've dried pounds and pounds and pounds in my dehydrator at 145F-155F with no complaints.

I also removed the retarded filter that you see in the picture.

Keep in mind though, at first I thought I would be using my big dryer over my nesco, but I prefer the nesco for speed.  Don't get me wrong, it'll dry pounds in a couple days, but since I'm usually harvesting quite constantly in a rotation, the nesco sees more use(smaller batches but more constantly) and when I have more than the nesco can handle, it all goes into the big boy.

I also thought about position of the fan... does blowing the air upward ever cause any of your dry fruits to jump out of the shelf?
