Agar help?
    #29562709 -

I have been practicing some agar work. Been doing good with cloning to keep my strain from dying and having to buy more LC. But I lost malt extract so resorted to potato flakes. And I had grok guide me on the recipe. Probably a mistake. Anyway here's a pick of the results. I dropped spores in the plates they thrived for a bit but the plate dried up before it fully colonized. What's left looks healthy. Could I clone from that or bad idea? So my new technique for agar pouring.. Mix recipe, pressure cook with empty aluminum foiled glass Petri's. Pour it hot in an SAB after 30 minutes PSI in PC. I Kinda spilled a bit and made a mess. So I'm worried since I had to wipe off the outside of dishes. Contam prone? Will see. I wait till they get firm. Flip em over, then put in ziploc and story in cupboard. Should be good right? Last time I cloned it was very successful with malt extract so I'm confident if I poured good it should work. Before... I would pour after pressure cooker ran just a little bit. Wrapped dishes in foil with agar inside. And PC them all like that. Worked but its not the conventional way to do it. I just did a skipping of the SAB and did it that way to ensure it was sterile out of the PC and ready to drop wedges in for cloning.

If it's indeed mycelium, go ahead and clone it.:mushroom2:

Even if you fumbled something accidentally and it contams, can always just make another transfer

Rock on! P.s cardboards contam resistant and can just boil it xd if u Wana b lazy when making multiple plates or use 0$ here's a cube pic as proof though ul have to dial in the humidity retention by double micropore taping and tossing in a ziplock n let sit make sure zip isn't all the way closed xd Ive liked working with cardboi  petri

. The cardboard on cubes I had same problem with cuz I didn't toss in ziplock I got a few more plates I transfered those dryed cardboard ones to new cardboard petris p.s don't mean to highjack tho think u might b interested xd couple pieces of rice to 2 cardboard petris I turned into 3 petris as a test lwk I shoulda done more rice for proper colonization tho I learned n it still growing xD

I tend to save agar for isolating or tryna for mono single spore colonized plates or cross mushys :0 or multispore

Inside the plates us dried up potato agar recipe. Yea so its all like brown for some reason but its like a discoloration from the crappy recipe I used but there's a little bit of mycelium on the brown. All on top of that psilocybin mushrooms book by Paul stamets. All I got in my hidden chamber is a blue light srry

What was the recipe? It doesn't look like agar medium

Dah fug? This shit actually work? And you close it inside of a ziploc? I been micropore taping the bottoms of my plates to retain moisture cuz I feel like they been drying from the opening in the bottom but this time I got malt extract instead of a shit potato flake agar.
And right here I got some clones! I found some actual clean culture I had hiding in the fridge from awhile ago. It was the ONE plate that really thrived in this bad agar so it must be a damn good strain. I produced it multiple transfers from a spore print. Think I should still tape the bottoms of the plates?

It was a formula I asked grok to shit out for me lol. And I'm thinking maybe its because I let the agar sit in the shelf for awhile before I used it again. And then also I think it was potato flakes with "added protein"

Those plates looks normal. You can also use regular clingwrap instead ziploc and micropore tape (lol)

Like plastic saran wrap? And tape it? Won't that suffocate them?

Check out Oktopus's link. Just take a roll of cling film (Saran wrap, whatever), lay it on a cutting board, and roll it under a kitchen knife to cut off a 1" or so (25-30mm) wide piece. Works great, nothing suffocates. No tape, just wrap it around with a little tension a couple of times and pull to tear off. It stays put- if anything it's hard to find the end to remove it sometimes, but there's always a scalpel around.

Yes, regular kitchen clingwrap. You don't need to tape it. You will not suffocate the mycelium. You can wrap it in stacks like on the video or wrap every single plate separatly. I like to wrap it separatly so I cut down the clingwrap roll to smaller 2-3cm rolls

Man all that for some cardboard plates...
There's a good reason people use agar and not cardboard. You do you, but don't go suggesting this to new cultivators. It's bad practice, and advice. Learning agar is easy, no need for cardboard.

True it won't look very good for cubes 😂 I mean worth the experiment 01 grains of rice n cardboard water n petris lol learning is worth it  cyanesens love it tho ('.')/""\('.')
