first LC, you pick the mediums + agar's LC lids modified

I'm getting spores in today from sporeworks, and am going to be experimenting with various LC mediums.

I'm using agar's LC lids with a slight modification. It still has 2 tubes, one's been shortened to 1/2 inch and filled through with gasket sealer as you can see in the photo below. I've tested and the needle goes through easily and reseals well. I'm not sure about the long term durability, but they're very low cost. EDIT: Do NOT use the above method, the sealant in the tube will plunge down into the LC when you use a needle as RTV sealant does not adhere to the tubing :frown: Skip the tubing in the injection port and just use a dab of sealant over the hole itself.



For those who want to know, the materials are: high temp vacuum tubing, RTV gasket sealer (both of which can be found at any auto supply store), and polyfil.

I currently have 4 jars ready to go, and can make more if needed. I'll be using: karo, honey, shredded cardboard, and shredded straw. If you would like to see any other mediums tested, post them and I'll give it a go so long as the suggestion is reasonable.

Karo & honey work. Cardboard & straw would be a chunky PITA.

Suggest you try a level tablespoon of light dry malt & dry dextrose to a quart of water. Bring pot to rolling boil, add ingredients, stir to meld them in, strain through double coffee filters into 2 jars. PC 20 minutes at 15 psi.

BEST MIX I HAVE EVER USED.

Perhaps, but it's worth checking out, IMO. No worries about ratios, and I've spooned off all the floaters.
