I don't know what you are talking about exactly, but bear fat is stellar. Most of it (not the shoulders, they smell like wet dog) is sweet and creamy and viscous. Not all animal fat is the same in fact it is all very different. You don't want to eat turtle fat and if you do it can make you sick. Deer hardly have any fat and the fat they do have is gamey. Cow fat is good but hog fat is better.

Bear fat is my favorite fat, and they make a lot of it if you get them toward/during the winter...

This is one of 4 or 5 buckets of fat I got off of a 500 lb black bear.


I like to smoke chunks of the fat that I soak in maple syrup and sea salt for a couple days and rinse. After smoking over cherry and chaga mushroom I bring it in and chill it. Then I slice it off and fry it like bacon and eat it like that. You can render it too and it makes great frying oil as well as stellar cookies and pie crusts.

There's a Polish couple who have a cottage near my hunt camp and a couple deer seasons ago we got a bear and they were begging us for the fat. They said they made it into an arthritis topical rub of sorts. Didn't ask too many questions just let them have it.

I'm not crazy about eating bear, I prefer venison, but one guy I know had it made into pepperettes and they were awesome. Great snack in the lunch bag.

The guy who gave it to me touted all these health benefits and said it cures a bunch of shit. He was part native American. I read into using it for joint pain and it seemed to help as far as could tell, just rubbing it I'm my knuckles and my toes when I got new boots that hurt my feet. Idk if it was placebo. I never ate it though, I let it sit out, albeit with a lid covering it, unrefrigerated so I never really tried to eat it in anything. It was super inert in terms of smell so I'm sure it was probably good to cook with.

I also like to shoot recurve. I have a few Ben Pearson recurves in storage.
