Good news!  You don’t need to ferment or sterilize woodchips to have massive woodlover grows!  Here’s lilolme’s legendary and super simple cyan grow where he yields lbs of dry fruit every year using plain untreated chips:

Poor advice? Lmao. Like I said good luck with your fermented only-sub. Like I said you remind me of someone who didn't like the surface I had taken a pic of my chocolate on facebook then freaked out and began trying to convince me what a masterful cultivator they are.
Its simple logic, I'm glad youre having fun with your single-digit fruits and cross-my-fingers cultivation, but I prefer to cultivate with something that not only has a chance of success, but a guaranteed abundant fruiting and healthy mycelium, and all it takes is a simple observation to understand sterilizing after fermenting is the way to go. I hope I'm not rocking anyone's boat with suggesting you don't just send your spawn to a giant contamination vector, but everything I've posted in this thread and everything connected with my name is easily verifiable, and I don't need a trusted cultivator tag to get me to double back on my stance of something I've tried a dozen times and has not worked. So whatever scam or scheme or agenda I'm making waves against by suggesting people do the logical thing and sterilize one's sub after fermenting, it isn't intentional. In fact, it might not even be the case. Some people maybe just can't handle someone coming in suggesting they, idk, do what has worked for me, not just whats worked for you?

I'm really not trying to use this platform for vitrol and to steamroll my ignorance upon others. So, whatever your problem is, however you think I & others should abide my your most holy & trusted advice, the fact remains if I was a newbie, who would I be willing to listen to more, someone who is compassionately suggesting people take their wood sub prep thru one additional last step, or someone barking back at said person cause it doesn't align with their success, practically shouting "show your work, show your work"! That's what I'm in it for, so that people who live and breathe myco like me but are having contamination issues(like the one I replied to) can have a better shot at success versus wasting their time, energy, and materials, which I have done with fermented only sub.
Would you send cubensis spawn to simply hydrated/fermented/soaked coir or dung? I don't cultivate cubes, but if ur answer to that rhetorical is a "no" congratulations, you've taken your first step into a larger world.
Now lastly, I've made points that should stand on themselves; If you want to whip out the measuring stick, I'm sorry but you'll have to find another swinging Jimmy because I'm not posting pics. When youre lucky enough to see them, you'll see some incredible success. Insofar as I don't really have anything left to say to you until that point, and even then, ill try to remain humble, but if ur thinking about a toxic reply, make it a good one bcuz I'll use the ignore feature if you've got nothing solid to contribute but want to gloss past my retorts and resort to schoolground bickering.

Thanks for the link. As I said if you didn't fly past my "rambling", anyone can simply say they did it without sterilizing. It's healthy to be a skeptic. Now, while youre trying to convince me of the most lazy way possible to get fruits(common, lets call it what it is)
How much more lbs of fruit do you think they would get if they sterilized their sub?
I'm over here thinking, if one has all the resources to make agar and sterilze spawn, why would you not sterilize your substrate? I've tried sterilized only, decent results, but never as good as fermented + sterilized. You might disagree, but I'm pretty sure Nate Em All would not find bugs in his sub if he sterilized it after fermenting. Makes sense to me! Bugs tend to die after being boiled or pressure cooked.

I've always done my indoor work sterilized , I don't care about fermentation these are going to eat for months before fruiting but whatever gets ya from point a to point b
Last year I used sterile chips for spaen , worked fine.
Year prior we went strait from grain to outdoor beds of soaked chips...worked fine
This year using hfp and coir / grain , some will like to start beds dead middle of winter I wait till spring and stock up taking advantage of the warm indoors with winter

Nice! There are a couple public spots near me i’m planning on spawning to this spring. Anyone else still getting pins? I saw this this afternoon.

I got some Azurescens SSLC ready to go, I can only get chips for smoking, but that's fine right? I can get Beech, Alder or Oak chips, price is the same, is one of them better then the other? I also have hwfp made from spruce and pine if that could be used in some way.

I have read a lot in this thread and I have read Tweeq's journal several times, but I could use some step by step help here. I will let them colonize inside, spawn to bed and pot when spring comes.

Anyone want to help me out with my outdoor shenanigans?

Beach, Alder and Oak are all fine, I like to use Alder personally, but it doesn't matter much. Oak will probably last a little longer as it's got a higher density.

But really, they aren't choosy.

What route do you want to go, indoors and / or outdoors? Huge beds or small pots/ tubs? For larger adventures hwfp works great. For smaller stuff I like to sterilize jars of chips. Pheno and Herme5 had interesting observations on only using fermented for indoor attempts. And I must say it works fine as a sub for the alleni.

Edit: sorry I'm stoned and kind of missed half of your post. Yes, for a pot and and outdoor bed, inoculate a few jars of grain, use them for either hwfp or chips, when working indoors I greatly prefer grain -> sterilized chips -> chip to chip. That way you'll have a high spawn ratio in spring and chances increase it'll fruit the same year.

I have heard many times that you have to use a certain type of wood. In my experience, there's no difference in whatever type of wood you use. If youre going for indoor colonization, fermentation alone is asking for disaster if not total failure. I promise you if you have clean spawn, as long as you sterilize your sub after youve fermented it, you will have no problem with indoor consolidation until you are ready to bury them outdoors.

I don't worry about prepping more chips for the outdoor pile, the colonized substrate is strong and healthy enough to subsist on its own, and can be buried in one solid chunk or mixed in with pre existing landscape/council woodchips

As little as I want to support anything Churp says, I have heard the same thing from Pheno, at least something similar in regards to it not mattering sterilized vs fermented. Nonetheless, I do see a slight problem with the fermented route is that it's not sterile...
Gotta wonder why we do agar work in front of a flow hood instead of on a toilet seat. Maybe sterility has something to do with it. Therefore, one perhaps might get more success with sterile method, versus one that you may be coming back like "what did I do wrong in this fermentation process"? When either it gets infested with bugs, bacteria, or other fungus.

My large beds I have no fucking clue what was in them lol , came from tree trimming company that would give free chips by the dumpload mostly fir cottonwood alder maple but whatever the fuck was in the way ended up in that truck lol, just don't start on cedar/ pine lol, any smoking chips are a great place to start though I prefer my indoor prep on hfp , the inoculation points are next level

Yeah, my bad Churp, I condensed it to futher illustrate my point. I should explain now that I have a chance to elaborate on what I meant by 30 min quick boil to packing in jars and sterilizing for four hours. I agree the four hour sterilization time is a bit overkill, and I would likely not run my 15psi PC for that long. The intantpot though, since it runs at 12.5 psi & has the option for four hours pc time without any fussing with it; is good for just ensuring your wood sub is sterile after fermentation and letting dry to field capacity.

Yeah my bad, I want to fight everyone here except you, because I want to get spores from you....

No Nate, he didn't need you for that haha.
But if this guy wants to scream and shout at my friends, then speaks to me like that... Only because he wants spores from me...
Then goes on to say he'd 'gladly stab me' and whatever, yeah I feel obliged to point out the hypocrisy.

How are your projects coming along?

Sent 16 jars of Azures and Wayans yesterday. The other jars of subs/wayan/azures/ps cyans are happily colonizing. Added more rocks today to the newly made patch cause my cats decided to take a shit there anyways lol. Probably going to buy bigger rocks to make it more inconvenient for them to ever be able to position themselves there to poop. I have onions planted in the mycelium infused pots outside which I actually add to my scrambled eggs breakfast with blue oysters from my martha tent

Not woodlover related but the Ingeli wedgie you sent me has survived the journey and is slowly filling up the plate, thanks for that once again. I have T1 Ingeli plates from a spore plate I started a while back and they should be ready to be sent to grain soon.

Looking good! Sometimes throwing a bunch of branches on patches really helps keeping cats out. But the myc will firmly attach them to the beds, so make sure when you place them they won't be an obstacle for harvesting.

Your breakfast sounds top notch.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the advice. Will add some wood debrie next time I go collecting. I'm honestly assuming the pins will just grow out in-between the rocks but we'll see. I've been honestly checking the pots for pins every day haha. Should go to the oak forest soon and collect some wood for fermenting. I have a couple of bags of oak wood chips that I bought which I'm planning to sterilize and leave in my closet for Azures/Wayan/Subs since I already have a bag of colonized ps cyan wood sitting on my desk

I started my Azure bed 20 years ago using Alder chips used for smoking that I got at the local feed store. They are a little pricey for the small amount (2 lbs) you get, but it does work just fine.
