lanmaoa asiatica
    #29426565 -

Hey guys, I am searching high and low for a place to find lanmaoa asiatica spores, liquid culture, or even fruiting bodies. I have checked ATCC, CABI, and a few other research banks with no luck. Does anyone have a lead on this?
Any help would be much appreciated

Lanmaoa asiatica is ectomycorrhizal. I doubt you will be able to find liquid culture or spores. In order to find fruiting bodies you would need to be in the regions of the world where they grow. Either forage for them or seek them in the market in those countries where they may be sold.

Probably your best bet would be to email the mycologist that is researching it.

He's a PhD student at the University of Utah.

Just as a heads up though it's an ECM fungus.  Cultivation will be extremely difficult if that's your goal.

And unless you are a serious researcher, I wouldn't go bugging this guy.

Im considering an expedition to gain some samples under a research licence, alongside the media to which it grows.
Still have to work out how to fund it though.

Someone could reach out to tour guides in China, the Philippines, and the Papua New Guinea highlands where these are found and see if they would be willing to make some prints and plop them in the mail. Looking at the pictures in the article tree frog posted leads me to believe a guide could easily acquire these at local markets.

So yes, it does form mycorrhizae, cultivating this is really on a different plane than what we do here.

Perhaps the solution, if the climate allows it, would be to introduce mycorrhizal trees?

Is the mycelium active? From what I can find, it looks like all the research has been focused on the fruiting bodies.

Someone correct me if this assumption is off but im guessing that at this point they are still chasing what makes them active

I was thinking something like that. Similar to truffle farming.
The task would be monumental.

I always have concerns trying to naturalize life to new places....

Yep. They tested negative for psilocybin.

And I mean, I guess it's just trolling, with all of the one to five post accounts chiming in, but if it isn't... The fact that they're mycorrhizal makes them next to impossible to cultivate in a home setting. It doesn't matter much if the myc is active, or if they attract little lumps of gold.

I think once a culture hits the streets, cultivating the mycelium will be as simple as producing bolete grain spawn. That's why I'm curious if it's active with the unidentified novel compounds.

If you can eat cube grain spawn and get an effect, then could the same be possible with this species. Also could the blueing have something to do with the effect/toxin, so perhaps there's a correlation? Just a theory. Would love to try making some spawn. Anyone found a print yet?

Sorry I know this was 6 months ago but I missed this.  And it's still fitting for the context of the last question.

Even if it is, it's still likely going to be hard to culture on media.

7suns has been working with amanita.  And ECM fungi require special agar techniques and likely won't take to grain easily either.

But you can search 7suns posts anyone that is interested, to have some idea what you're getting yourself into.

My initial comment still stands, for serious researchers your best bet is to reach out to the mycologist that is researching it and asking if he will share spores

But again I wouldn't bug him if you're just curious and don't know what you're getting into.
