Ovoids on egg cartons, second picture is about two weeks on the cardboard

Ovoids on pasteurized bird seed debris from below the bird feeder. First picture is about 10 days, second is about two weeks.

Sun pasteurized bird debri.
Soaked the bird seed shells in water for a day, then drained them in a colander for 6 hours.
Pasteurized about two gallons of bird seed debris in about a 6 gallon clear plastic bag placed in 5 gallon black plastic tray. Put another 6 gallon bag around the tray and put that out in the sun for a couple of days. Turned the bag inside the tray over a couple times each day.

Made a layer cake, in a large heavy paper bag.

About an inch and a half of pasteurized bird seed debri, cardboard repeat three times and topped wth more bird seed, then put the bag in one of the 6 gallon bags added some water, maybe a quart and a half till the cake felt right. Closed the plastic bag loosely.

Worked well considering how warm it's been. Only exposed about a two inch chunk, but the rest of the cake feels like it's bound by mycelium and smells right.

Some thoughts on unglazed terra cotta
The Dalcassian said:
I heard a tale before about amanita muscaria myc being cultivated in a liquid culture in unglazed pottery. When the culture was grown out the broth was drunk and refilled with a new uninnoculated broth.
This broth didn't need inoculation because the amanita myc had colonised unglazed pottery. Perpetually colonising the broth.

Sounds a bit out there but an interesting idea

hmmm

Question about temperatures:

If we're dipping down to 10C at night, but into the 20s during the day, do you think fruiting will start? Or are we looking for day time 10c (or lower) temperatures?

The dips are more important than the daytime temps ime. I once caused a fruiting of my Cyan patches in July iirc, bc of giving a lot of cold water. Daytime temps were far over 20°C but they still pinned. It was a pain to keep them alive in those conditions though. Constant watering and jeeping out of the summer sun.

Sweet, we've been getting rain at least once a week this summer. My patch doesn't get direct sunlight except for about an hour in the middle of the day.

I'll tell my brother to start checking for pins (the patch is at his place) tyvm!

Hahaha. You need to run this xgriseo one. It's insane aggressive. It's Julian mattuccis hybrid of thaiaerugineomaculans and niveotropicalis.

I just want to share my disappointment in this (Dutch) summer. IWL and ovoid didn't do anything for me. The warm weather gave me a lot of pans, but damn I was looking forward to summertime wls.

Also: wtf Pheno. Phenomenal results.

Are we actually certain that pheno isn't really a maple tree showing off his STDs (spore transmitted diseases)?

Very cool, I wonder how well of an invader mescaleroensis will be. Been tucked up in that habitat for so long. I got to visit the area it’s from last spring. No way for it to get out of there in its own. It must be very hardy to live in such a dry place.

Want to share some pics of my first woodlover outdoor patches.
They were made in may in the forest.
Substrate: mix of alder and beech wood chips, inoculated with rye grain.
After the patches had been fully colonized i added another layer of woodchips.
These pics are about two weeks old.
Yesterday i have checked the patches and noticed that the myc is already colonizing the new layer of woodchips.
Hope to get some fruits this autumn.

Adding fresh chips this late in the season may stall them until next year.  If there’s a bunch more chips to colonize and consolidate they may skip fruiting.  Either way congrats on some big healthy piles

Thank you!
Yeah the problem was that i did not use a wire mesh to keep rodents away from the patch.
Got the advice here to use a wire mesh but the forest is at the edge of a town, so there are a lot of walkers.
Did not want to let it attract peoples attention...
The first layer of woodchips has been broken up by rodents trying to get the rye berries.
Next time i will choose a better spot, far off civilization.
More grain jars of both species are in progress.
