They like to use the term, democratic republic or, equivalently, people's and social republic, to describe the same uniparty.

While claiming to be for a charitable purpose, the upper tranches exist through market controls, representing the centralization of power.

Take for fictional examples:
--Globocide, inc from the Oblongs
--Global Warefare MFG from Disturbed's, "Vengeful One" video
--ACME from Coyote and Road Runner


Form it, and give it noncompetitive advantages via market controls.

Say it serves an alruistic purpose.

All of the different visions of govt you mentioned are ultimately boondoggles whose modus operandi is to launder subsidies.

I don't feel accusatory about it; collaborators should be honest with themselves.

Socialism is a spectrum. The Social Security System is on that spectrum. Income tax is, too. The fundamental idea being about distributing the resources in a community equitably. A monopolistic system, or oligarchy, would be the inverse of socialism.

Capitalism is morally bankrupt because the flaws of a "free" market have been exposed. Before the toppling of the Soviet Union, fears of communist/socialist revolution helped to keep capitalism in check, and America made concessions to socialist ideas in the form of welfare, unions, and anti-monopolistic governance. To keep the people happy.

Reagan began the dismantling of those practices, such as by aggressively attacking/restricting unions. And the Soviet empire was beginning to crack before he left office. Without the Cold War, and any real competitor to capitalism, then capitalism could run amok and be left to its worst vices. "Greed is Good."

Democratic Socialism is on the spectrum. It isn't communism. It IS a reaction to the oligarchy and total redistribution of wealth to a tiny fraction of people in this country.

if we're not going to utilize socialism everyone might as well tool up and live like GTA V players.  the entire fucking point of society is to band together to do things we couldnt do otherwise.

I dunno about you but if it was up to me on my own, my street wouldn't be paved to the corner, let alone beyond.  I wouldn't be able to afford a military, or a system with trucks and people hired to pick up my trash and take it to a designated place.  or a 24/7 system where I can make a call if my house catches on fire, and people will show up and expend great effort to save my shit.

republicans/maga/idiots that bitch about socialism are just using the wrong words to tell you that they don't know what the fuck socialism is, or how America functions.  maybe they'd like the return of Crassus' fire brigades...

That's not socialism, though.  The military, and roads, and government services aren't the means of production of goods.

All societies spread the burden of public services.  That's the very nature of a society.  That doesn't make all societies socialist.  The core tenet of socialism/communism is that the government (or the people as a whole) own the factories, etc. that make goods that people need.  This is in contrast to private ownership of those factories for profit.

Government services don't make a society more socialist.

when the people that build the roads, pick up the trash, etc are paid for with tax dollars, they are effectively socially owned.

Roads are not goods.  Picking up trash is not a good.  Social services have no relation whatsoever to socialism.  Of course roads are socially owned...That's been the norm for thousands of years.  If that's the test for socialism, then every society since the roman empire has been socialist.
