Sorry for the confusion.  0.5% lme.  The agar part I have kept constant as that only affects the firmness of the agar.  The stuff I've been using calls for 1.5% agar and that has worked well. I haven't had any need to tinker with the agar concentration, just the nutrient concentration based on advice here.

I've also tried potato starch dextrose agar, but couldn't really tell any difference and the light malt extract is just easier (less ingredients)

I figured as much, but didn't want to assume or confuse others.
Especially with the chance of it being a premixed product.

OK, now it's grown up the wall and over the inside lip, is trying to grow down to escape. x7x+ doing x7x+ robust things. I might just let it go and see if it busts through the grafting tape I wrap my plates with.

Not x7x+ specifically, but have had a few others do exactly that...

Especially lions mane, and once it hits fresh air it fruits. But that's not saying much for LM

I've never grown lions mane but it looks like expanding insulation foam...with teeth.

I half believe the culture on this plate of mine smells the 40 pound bag of grain 10 feet away.

No room in agar dish to fruit really I pull the colonized wood off into larger baggie to make wood chip spawn to expand out

This is so cool.. I have questions! (Sorry if I missed the answers)..

- do you inoculation the plate with the wood chips already on it?
- do you PC steralise the wood chips first?
- is this a T1 plate or do you save the woodchips for a later transfer?

Thanks!

These are my first ever T1 plates so I'm here with noob questions!...
Are these ready to transfer? Any advice as to where I should sample from?

Plate 2 only has a bottom picture because the top has condensation and my phone camera couldn't handle it

It looks like you have some Rhizo starting in Plate 1.... Looks promising

Hey so I used a fully colonized plate from November,  once plate was long ready i pre soaked chips in baggie, ( hand smashed aspen) (soaked few days till all pcs sink down) and put soaked chips in ontop mycelium in colonized plate. Maybe month or lil more later I peeled off colonized chips with tweezers and put in baggie with more soaked aspen hand pulverized,  its jumping off already in a week very well too. Im thrilled this worked so well

GT plates. One is completely rhizo and the other is, well… not at all. I know I can send the rhizo plate, and that this kind of growth is preferable, but does that mean the other plate is no good? I can do a transfer, but it won’t change.

Also, so I need to worry about 12:00 on this plate:

I just harvested 2nd flush of LM, super aggressive and not picky about conditions.  These pics are from the 1st flush

My plates have been acting very strange lately. I thought it was from bad water at first, but I made these with bottled water and brown rice syrup. Still getting weird growth. Any ideas?

Thin, slow, and erratic growth. Some cultures won’t grow at all, they just sit on the plate and do nothing.

How stiff is your agar? That was my problem when it was happening to me.

Have you had good results with the brown rice syrup before now? You recently posted that bottle, right? Could it have something to do with that?

Maybe? I can’t 100% remember but I think the last round of MAE also was weird.

Hey. I had a lot of problems with spore prints / spore syringes (couldn't get them to germinate or had contams, more about that in my thread) so now I started over with LC. How do these look?

Do I do transfers (and agar to grain) or can I just LC to grain?

I just experienced something similar. At first I thought it was the blue food colouring, but I’m not sure anymore. It's better on the plates without the colouring, but still bad.

Got them over on BRF(1,5%)/ELME(0,5%) plates, with the following results thus far:

My theory is that either higher temps have influenced the way they grow on the ELME or it's gone bad.

Unfortunately I don't possess constant and wide enough data for any comparison, so it's nothing but speculation from my side. Higher nute content, different agar stiffness. The only thing the bad ones have in common is 1-1,6% ELME.

The only thing I know to be true, is that all my cultures do better on BRF/ELME instead of just ELME.

I have the same water source, using the same filter all across the board.
The water is pretty decent drinking water, except for it being quite hard.
Never had issues without filtering it first either.
