It's still a gamble if the % chance of getting benefits is decreasing at a fixed rate. Thinking that you're entitled to the same results as the people that already retired because you paid for 35 years is not a guarantee, nor that paying for 10 more years will increase your chances of getting it.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the definition of "gambling."  Buying insurance isn't gambling.  Social Security is the same thing.

Also, you're wrong. The chances of getting benefits increases as you get older because your life expectancy gets higher as you get older.

It goes both ways. It's also the expectation that because things have been successful, they will stay successful. Even though it's demonstrated that its success is not sustainable if it continues with the same inputs

Applying a political definition to a word in an effort to change the messaging doesn't really change the fundamental reality that social security payments are, in fact, welfare payments.

Edit: more specifically, social security is an insurance program designed to pay people in need, as a redistributive form of poverty prevention for the elderly. Which basically fits the provided definition of welfare.

There has always been a concerted message attempting to distinguish between "welfare", like the kind poor black people collect, versus "social security", which is what temporarily disadvantaged white senior citizens collect.

So what? Lot's of things aren't sustainable with the same inputs.  Agriculture is probably the most obvious example.  Are you suggesting that continued investment in agriculture falls under the gambler's fallacy?

In any case, with regard to SS that's a very simple policy fix.  Just scrap the payroll tax cap for high income earners.  There's no good reason for there to be a discount for the people who least need it and it only exists to help drive the program into insolvency.

Why don't you try the post office next? That's one of my favorite GOP talking points to slap down
