He's the sitting president and the former precedent for "legitimacy" got flushed 8 years ago. He lost in 2020 and attempted to prevent the peaceful transition of power. Democrats had 4 years to prepare for this election and any slimy shit Trump might pull and look at how they chose to run their campaign.

If he illegitimately won the Democrats did nothing to stop it and have done nothing to make it right.

Bunch of excuses and bullshit being thrown at Democrats while the Republicans tumble down the fascist rabbit hole they’ve been digging into for the last 10 years.
I am not the Democratic Party. Stop acting like I am so you can throw all of your anger you have for them at me.
I didn’t choose who they ran.
I’m certainly not going to refuse to vote because neither side has anything to offer and I’m just going to complain about everything.

That’s fucking useless. I voted Democrat because I didn’t want whats happening now to transpire.

To anyone in this thread that did not vote democratic. You voted for what is happening right now, and you deserve the responsibility of it. The Democrats did not do this to you. You did by not trying to prevent it.

They ran a 8 year long campaign about Trump being a foreign agent who would destroy democracy and usher in fascism, and their response to him regaining power has been “well what do you want US to do about it?!”

And folks wonder why the voter base has apathy.

“Our opponent will end DEMOCRACY! Oh he won? Welp we’ll get him next cycle!”

In what world is this a salient argument?

The damage is done but they could have made better moves leading up to the election.

I think that they should have been honest about Biden's cognitive decline from the get go because he was 78 when he got elected and it was obvious what was happening. If they had done that they could have had a real primary and the Democratic candidate could have had the positive optics of being chosen by the constituents. Instead they unilaterally chose to push Kamala out as the candidate which was strategically idiotic.

Democrats want to be right more than they want to win. America doesn't want a female president. Righteous pseudo intellectual smarminess will never win over good old fashioned populism.

If they got out of their own way he wouldn't have even won in 2016.

I think he means that they should have done something other than performative opposition that is strictly symbolic in nature and does little or nothing to actually oppose the fascist agenda.  Of course, that would have perhaps angered the donor class whose interests  "both" parties are beholden to so that wasn't ever going to happen.  Its almost as if the Dem "opposition" is constrained to a message of "we're mostly the same but nicer about it" and that message doesn't fire up their base in the same way that maga's "we're fucking evil and proud of it" message does their own.
