Sure but the polls were basically in line with the results, and the prevailing narrative explaining Trump’s win (Biden depressed enthusiasm, Kamala restored it slightly before sprinting right and embracing the Cheneys and Mark Cuban, distancing herself from trans rights and Gaza, with inflation hanging over everyone, giving republicans an edge) rings pretty true based on exit polls.

I think the idea that Trump outright stole it is just liberal cope that explains losing *again* to the dumbest man alive. I mean, we’ve already seen this episode in 2016 with Russiagate.

the American right is pretty far beyond learning from the frog and the scorpion at this point.  if people need to put their finger on the scale to push things to the point where republicans grow some balls and do the right thing, so be it.

tanking fascism hasn't proven to be a sustainable strategy.

More people got kidnapped.
The government’s really been ramping up. It’s Gestapo tactics and kidnapping people out of their houses and off the street. Legal citizens just been taken away.

I just have never heard about that happening in America before I’m not sure why people aren’t talking about it more. Almost like they’re complacent and they are purposely ignoring it.

the freedom to choose ignorance and apathy comes with eventual consequence.  1/3 of Americans have chosen ignorance, and another 1/3 apathy.

I’m working with the idea of seeing Trump as a kind of societal mutagen, which is forcing us to either evolve or degenerate into terminal cancer. I’m betting we evolve. I say that because we have all these historical precedents (I.e. rise of fascism 20th century in Europe) which help guide us in our responses now.

But something truly novel will come out of it all. Change sucks cause we have to get off our asses and try new and diffferent things, but in the long run is always for the best

Probably true as a general rule, but I think here in the comfort of the imperial west, there’s a good argument for subverting the guilt that goes along with our standard of living by simply not paying attention to the issues. Whether that’s ethical is another conversation, but I think you can have knowledge of the issues and still be apathetic, whether that’s because it helps you sleep at night or you’ve just concluded that you can’t affect change.

I enjoyed the video! I wonder if they took some liberties with the translation to make it fit the kind of culture war we have been undergoing here.

I read some of the Wikipedia article on Plato's Republic. Looks like he proposed a process of degeneration from one form of government (regime) to another. Starting with aristocracy, then to timocracy, then oligarchy, then democracy, then tyranny (as the most unjust regime).

Which is strange to consider. An oligarchy being more just than a democracy? Hmm.. I'm sure Peter Thiel would agree.


Anyways, I don't see why Trump can't be both a natural result of societal processes leading up to this present moment, and also a societal mutagen that is changing society at this present moment. One could argue that COVID-19 was a natural result of certain processes (including artificial), and that it profoundly impacted and changed society.
