Nice work! I also use a Gordobox and love it! Don't let any of the haters dull yer shine, dude! Laminar flow or not, if it succeeds in keeping your plates free from contams, that's the only thing that matters.

That being said, I’m a gordo box hater.  It’s not real clean work and it’s a ridiculously expensive getup compared to a seven dollar SAB that is more effective.  If you want a flow hood then build a real flow hood :shrug:

Yeah I dumped the rest of the unused ones from that batch and have a new batch in the PC now with no food coloring. The myc is spreading very slowly compared to some other transfers and clowns so I’ll see what that one does over the next couple weeks. Thanks for the reply.

I josexed this out of a mexicana 'Rancho Agosto' germ plate that showed mostly green. It is the tiny hole in the biggest colony. Can anyone confirm if this is indeed Rancho Agosto? It sure doesn't look like my galindoi used to do.

Hello,
I am trying to cross strains...is this looking like it might work?  you can see in the pics, the before and after of where I took samples from.  Does this look like the correct place to get a sample from?  Does it look like the PP is taking over the TP sample?

I believe to cross strains you mix the spores together and hope they make your desired mycelium. Not totally sure just intertwingling the mycelium will do anything

Starch water from boiling vermicelli noodles. Ingredients: Rice Flour, Water





I think this might be an interesting base for agar. Gnocchi water is my go to, I tried ramen boil water, but those ramen noodles have a lot of palm oil and sodium and it would leave swirls on top that could be confused for bacteria.

The Vietnamese vermicelli was way less ingredients than the gnocchi, so I wonder if it will create less sediment. 

On that note, last time I did my gnocchi water agar, I tried straining it because there were a lot of starch solids that never mixed perfectly. It's still working but growth is less impressive. Last time I also added nutritional yeast and things exploded pretty quickly on those plates.

These are both dikaryotic, you need the monokaryotic forms of each, then you can use this method to cross the strains

Just out of curiosity can a piece of grain covered in mycelium be put on agar to obtain a clean culture? Say if the grain was taken from a jar that was contaminated in one spot, but clean in other places.

Yeah. You might bring over some contamination that isn’t yet visible but you can clean it up with transfers :awesomenod:

If you want to be real thorough you could drop a grain on a BRF puck and transfer that growth to a plate.
