Good to know! Thanks guys!

I posted a few pics of my plates a couple days ago, and a question that didn’t get answered response. I gotta go home later and post a couple more pics. I got questions as these are my first plates. I don’t think I did so well. Two are definitely a waste.

Need some help and insight here please. So these are my first plates. How are they looking? Pretty sure four of them are done and I gotta toss. I think the other are hanging in there. Your opinions, thoughts and wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

These are my APE plates. There is some discoloration on the plate I streaked. Looks like some may. Is starting, but looks pinkish from the bottom, yellowish from the top around the myc. The plate I put a drop on looks ok.

These are Black Cap Ochras. I think these look good so far?

Z Strain. The place where the liquid hit looks weird, but I think myc is starting ever so light and small?

Purple Mystic. I think also I see myc starting to take off here?

Now the bad stuff.
Pan Cyan Peace River. Smells like bad bread. I know I have to toss these. Just toss in the trash? Also, is it possible my whole LC syringe is tainted with contaminants? Should I try new plates with that syringe? Opinions please.

Ape Hillbilly Bumpkin. These green dots in the middle of the white, showed up yesterday. Another waste?

So I think it is odd that if four of my plates are definitely contaminated, and the four being two of each from two syringes (PC/PR LC & AHB MSS), that it could be possible that the syringes themselves are contaminated? Maybe possibly the APE as well, but might be able to pull something viable off that plate? I’m hoping this belongs in this thread and not the quick questions quick answers thread! Thanks in advance for your taking the time to help and educate me.

that’s a thing of beauty beef!

So for plates you recommend wrapping them before inoculating?

I have my stack just chillen unwrapped

Also I bought paper tape at the market and it leaves sticky crap on the edges, does the other microfilm or whatever not do that? It’s annoying me

I'd send about 95% of those plates, maybe do a transfer on 2 plates in 2nd pic, top right and bottom left.

My OCD likes this. This looks like an exhibit in the Plate Museum.

I'm storing mine horizontal now while they grow to keep water off the growth, after your idea. But I just stick them sideways in a zip lock bag in a drawer.

Sometimes if I'm transferring an agar slice, I leave them right side up for a few days until they grow a little and fuse to the new plate. I've had a few fall off sideways not doing that, and land on the side or the top.

Pic tax: dried Z-Strain plate that's been in the fridge for 3 years. It looks and feels like paper or thin leather. Sent some to new plates yesterday. I don't have high hopes. haha.

Pan Mystery SA has been giving me headaches.

0.5% lme and a bit of yeast.  Germination was done on BRF, I also germinated three other pan lines at the same time that grew well.  Nine transfers were picked off germ plates, three per plate, then transferred to t2 to check for organized growth.

These are t3.  A lot of crazy scalloping.

And a jar from wedge inoculation taken from one of the t2s that seems clean so far as far as growth rate for pans etc.

So, I would love feedback from any experienced pan growers that frequent this thread.  Debating going back to germ or cabin sequestering the nicer plate.

But that means it would be t5 before I get it into li and long term storage.

Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to look and answer.  Yes, they are disposable plates. I’m definitely deep sixing the pans & AHB. Trash pick up is tomorrow morning.

The PMs and APEs I think are good like you said. All 8 plates look better today. I think the black cap is showing very wispy myc, and the Z strain is showing also very small signs of myc circles today. I’m gonna move those four away from the other four plates and let them all ride for now to see what happens. I don’t think that will hurt, do you?

Do you think my pan cyan LC syringe could be totally compromised with contaminants?

Sorry, I overlooked a few things.

Ochras look fine!

Z-strain looks highly bacterial. The mycelium  towards 12 o clock seems salvageable.

Cool. No harm to let them ride then?

I’m kinda worried about that pan cyan syringe. Both plates showed signs of contamination 2 or 3 days after inoculating.

I’d put in a cabin personally.  Or do both
