I can confess to completely unconventional shit I do all the time here ahahahah.

Had an idea this week to do something different. I have taken very clean spore "prints" this way and had pretty much 100% success. I call it my Spore-a-lator. Basically I put 20ml of water in the bottom of this and then PC it for 20 minutes.

The top half (a smaller jar that fits snugly into the bottom one) is where I put the cap because that way the cap never touches the "print water" below as the spores just fall into the sterile water and then I use the SHIP to suck them out and I have a really clean spore syringe that is packed to the gills with spores and ready to use immediately or store for later.

So what I decided to try for the hell of it, is instead of putting water in the bottom I'd usually suck into a sterile syringe, instead I put about a half inch of RGS and then PC'd it to find out if the spore drop was clean enough to colonize and pin for clones in one easy step or would it all contaminate??? Keeping in mind, the cap never physically touches the bottom jar with the RGS. After about 12 hours of spore dropping, I just pull off the top jar that has the cap in it and twist the top of the jar with the RGS down tight and see what happens.

So when I woke up this morning this is what it looks like. I did the spore drop on the 13th so it's been 5 days and the growth is right where the spores dropped. Mycelium, at least today, is beating the contams if there are any in there.

Any bets on whether it contaminates or puts up pins?

I've literally made dozens of spore syringes like this and nearly all of them grew out very clean pucks that were use for G2G transfers to jars that grew out clean enough to fruit really well.

So wait...you're adding enough water to float the sub and essentially creating a mono/water tub hybrid?

Ive noticed the water turns a little yellow if I bottom water and happen to forget about it for a period of time. I wasn't sure if that was metabolites or "grain water", but didn't figure it was good either way. Nothing to worry about?

If the sub could be floated indefinitely, myc would still absorb water as needed as it flushed yeah? This is kinda sounding like a two pronged strategy here, no?

Do you do much strenuous labor or sweating in general?

I work out 4-5 times a week and hit it pretty hard. I’m in good shape. Healthy for 47. The reason for the monitor is to check for anything irregular that may be causing the light headedness.

I have experience with dizziness. Happened to me at about that age. I happened to be tripping first time I lost consciousness. I was walking around naked in the moonlight, and woke up on my face, leg broken, spiral fracture. After all the tests, a few epileptic mis-diagnosis, and a good neurologist later, it was something called vasovagal syncope. It's caused by lack of electrolytes. It is brought on by lots of labor/sweating, then later that night, usually after weed, I would get a quick flash of nausea, then wake up on the floor a minute later.

I now make sure I balance my electrolytes, mostly in the summer. No problem since. A few years after my leg break, a friend had the same injury. From the same condition. So, there's that.

Brother that is exactly what happened to me! Twice! I’ve actually narrowed it down with all of my Dr appointments in the last few weeks. My ENT is pretty sure it’s mΓ©niΓ¨re’s disease. Inner ear disorder that is treatable.  Both times it happened I had crazy pressure in one of my ears. Vertigo set in and next thing I knew I was on the ground waking up. MΓ©niΓ¨re’s typically sets in on males 40-60.

On New Year’s Day I got up in the middle of the night for some water. Wasn’t tripping anymore but did earlier in the evening. Got to the top of my stairs and vertigo hit me like a freight train. Fortunately I sat down right away and instead of falling from a standing position down the stairs I was sitting when I blacked out. I’m lucky I did’t break my neck. Gave myself severe whiplash and a separated shoulder.

I am glad I have the monitor on and will be able to rule out my heart (while tripping) as a cause. My hunch is the fluid build up and ear pressure that often happens on larger doses triggers the vertigo which can cause blackouts.

What you explained also makes a ton of sense too. I can’t smoke weed anymore because I always feel like I’m going to pass out. I miss Mexican dirt weed!

I had experienced sudden dizziness, pressure in my head and worst of all hear palpitations where I skipped two beats per minute. It would last 4-5 days and then gradually faded out. Would occur twice a year. The doctors wanted to put me on medication which I didn't like. So after having that happen to me a few times I handled it way calmer than at the beginning so I could pay actual attention what else was going on in my body. When ever I had an episode I would also occasionally get a nerve pain in my left arm and a very fain but mostly constant pain under my left shoulder blade. This gave me the idea to research heart problems coming from the spine and found that some people have what is called an "unstable cervical spine" which can be caused by injuries or wrong posture and can express in dizziness, elevated blood pressure, heart flutter or skipped beats and so on. So I did neck stretches and some basic light strength training for the upper back and it's gone. I feel it coming on sometimes but a bit of extra stretching does the trick.

It may work, but the consensus is it's best to let prints dry for a few days, before using. Mainly due to bacteria on the cap.

Also second printings are considerably more clean (more faint as well)

I also took a spore water print the day before doing this and immediately inoculated two other jars with the small amount of RGS.

The one in the picture, which was done a day later, is colonizing much faster. That's a lot of growth in just 5 days from spores, more than I've ever seen at least. Clearly, a lot of spores were dropped on a small amount of grain as after the drop, the circular area was dark black with spore coverage. I'm curious as to why it's colonizing so much faster than from the spore syringe?

Is it possible the spores are experiencing less "trauma" meaning they don't fall on foil, aren't dried out, then rehydrated then put on the grain? I have no idea, but I do know it's colonizing much faster than any spore to grain inoculation I've ever done.

Thanks... Appreciate that!

I wonder what the all time record is from spore drop to first pins?

I'm also thinking this is a very easy way for noobs, even when they don't have a PC, to get a quick very clean spore syringe and start another grow cycle.

The only way contams are going to get to the grain below is if they fall off the cap and drop below. If they stay on the cap, there is no way for them to get into the grain.

Printing straight to water has been around for ever a long time.

Not sure about the use of RGS instead of water. I do understand the benefits of this and agree it's a plausible method...

But here's my question, if it was such a great advantage why is it not the norm?

I think the likelihood of contamination from this method has a lot to do with how the spore dropping mushroom was grown. If it was grown in a monotub/shoebox or via PF Tek, the cap is exposed to a lot more contam potential than when it's grown in jars and isn't exposed to much "open air" the way I do it.

I've read a lot of teks and never seen anything suggesting a straight spore drop right on the grain. I think most people would just naturally think the contam odds are so high, they wouldn't even try it.

I confess I don’t let my SAB settle anymore, and haven’t for quite a long time

If I need shit done, I put what I need in there, give it 90 seconds at max and get it done.

I confess I did 4 transfers the other night without washing my hands after I had eaten some pizza..

I confess I also have my window open and a small space heater blowing in the room my SAB is in, and do not bother turning it off before working

I confess I spent 6 years meticulously learning the rules seemingly as to be able to break them with greater efficiency
