Cultivation General Discussion 30

Don't know why we don't have one of these, but apparently people get fussy when posts are "off topic" in a given thread. So, here's a thread where nothing is off topic as long as you can somehow draw a connection between it and cultivation.
I don't have any major topic suggestions, but if you're looking for something worth talking about, you could start with genetics, lineages, site/community project suggestions, "dafuq is this?" type posts, requests for assistance pointing to your own thread, disputing current techniques, etc. Hell, if you just want to ramble on about cultivation, while I may normally object, this is the place to do it. (I'm looking at you Fractal)
So, if that's all, and I think it is, go ahead and cut loose.
Important Edit:
Okay, so, maybe don't quite cut loose. We do want to stay on the topic of cultivation. If we start wandering outside of that then there's no reason for this to be here. We can talk about what the fuck ever in journals and some of the other forums, but let's keep it on topic here. If this thread serves its function correctly, that can mean a lot less bullshit in other threads, meaning thread subjects could plausibly be used in the search engine to accurately find actual discussion about said topic. Groundbreaking, I know.
Go forth and do.

IMO they're worth it. They also have sclerotia lol. One of the only pans which form sclerotia.
Does anyone have proof that their substrate bruised from handling and direct misting rather than dry conditions and/or contaminations? Been looking for someone who has experience with handling bruising on a sub, and it wasn't because of conditions. Personally I haven't ever seen any bruising from anything but dry conditions, yet every noob says you can get bruising from handling.

I think I've seen a few pan cinct grows.. It only really looks "worth" cultivating if cultivating new shit is what you're into, but that's just from my perspective, I haven't eaten any or anything.
Good question about the bruising. I've never had anything bruise from handling except fruits. What's up with jars that bruise when you shake them, for that matter? Never seen that in person either but I would toss that shit immediately if it happened to me.

Ime cakes do bruise from handling. It does seem to come out more when they've gotten dried though. I haven't seen a single bruise from misting.
I think of it a bit like, when it was so dry, it didn't even have 'enough blood to bruise' even if it wanted to. :broscience: :purespeculation:

Yeah bruising from shaking is imo always bacteria. That shit never happens normally. I made a thread on bruising here saying that the whole handling/spraying bruising is a myth, and barely anyone said anything that would prove otherwise. I was shocked because it is a pretty bold thing to outright say considering everyone says it can bruise from handling
@dank that is true. I've also seen bruising from a substrate that was turning yellow from being dry. The moment it was misted the yellow areas started bruising at that moment. Which still IMO indicates it was just too dry to begin with, and rehydration caused the yellow dying myc to turn blue from it. Not sure about the science behind it tho. It was just an observation.

- psillyshrooms Also notice that the mycelium is yellowing, and "dying". It is another indication things got too dry. The mycelium also bruised blue after a mist because it was recovering.

I remember that pic. It was hella bacterial. Which imo is why it happened. Considering a lot of bruising from shaking seems to happen to bacterial jars

To be honest now that I think about it I've never bruised a bulk sub even after dropping it or breaking it in half accidentally.
They never blue like cakes did for me

There was one time along time ago that my wife got mad at all of the mushroom shit around the house, so I picked up a tub and chucked it like a football onto my back porch, tub cracked and the sub broke into tons of pieces, it was pinning it's first flush when I did that, it never turned blue, sure enough just sitting there cracked open on my back porch gave out one of the biggest meatiest flushes I have ever had.

In light of this thread, I have been seeing some people talking about casing and fruiting at spawning, what are the pros and cons? I have been wondering about this but it felt silly to start a whole thread about it.

Do you have any good tens for fruiting a monotub immediately after spawning it?

I assume u meant tips.
Tighter polly to start, looser poly when it's colonized.
