Figured so, but that's just my brain. If someone says, halfway through the fourth joint, "Hey man, let's like, build this giant glass dome full of tropical trees and fucking build a pool in there", I'm thinking about the plumbing and how to filter the pool water, and how to avoid the chlorine negatively affecting the foliage, before I can even say "Yeah, dream on".

And no, I don't think using a torch inside the SAB, for a couple of seconds, wouldn't interfere with the function of the SAB. The currents... The air expanding... Then afterward sucking in air from outside...

If I didn't have the kids today, I'd smoke a fat blunt straight away and be done with it, but now this goddamn thing is bouncing around in my head.

Alright, so it's kind of a silly idea because there are so many other ways to work on cleaning up cultures, but the more I think about it the more I think maybe it could be useful in the right circumstances.

So, on that note, here's how I picture it working: pyrex petri dish. Lift the lid and torch the fuck out of everything. Lid goes back down before anything has had a chance to cool off. Air currents don't matter all that much because you're not pulling transfers until later. Just working in the SAB so that you're ready to go.

Forgive me mushroom for I have sinned some OCD hit me. I now print labels. And I put up 20 pint and quart jars of millet, and 12 EF bottles last week before I lea on a 2 w vacation. I also have 4 EF’s and 2 pans of grain/sub in a water tub with a fogger.
I keep telling myself to have less grow but keep it steady for a continuous stream of produce. But when I see so many pretty plates I just have to spawn them.
I firmly resolve withe help of thy trips to keep some semp jars for a year and try mycelated grain. Amen.

And then let the SAB settle for an hour until everything's settled again?
Could work, if the plates aren't wrapped until the oxygen depleted air has diffused. Or are wrapped with something that allows gas exchange

I’m doing a legit as fuck science experiment tonight!!!

The last few days I’ve been wearing a heart monitor from my cardiologist. Trying to figure out some dizzy spells I’ve experienced  over the last few months that have been concerning.  Anyway, It’s a 5 day test where they basically record my heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels etc. At the end of the 5 days I get a complete report of the readings over that period.

Do you do much strenuous labor or sweating in general?

I work out 4-5 times a week and hit it pretty hard. I’m in good shape. Healthy for 47. The reason for the monitor is to check for anything irregular that may be causing the light headedness.

I have experience with dizziness. Happened to me at about that age. I happened to be tripping first time I lost consciousness. I was walking around naked in the moonlight, and woke up on my face, leg broken, spiral fracture. After all the tests, a few epileptic mis-diagnosis, and a good neurologist later, it was something called vasovagal syncope. It's caused by lack of electrolytes. It is brought on by lots of labor/sweating, then later that night, usually after weed, I would get a quick flash of nausea, then wake up on the floor a minute later.

I now make sure I balance my electrolytes, mostly in the summer. No problem since. A few years after my leg break, a friend had the same injury. From the same condition. So, there's that.

Brother that is exactly what happened to me! Twice! I’ve actually narrowed it down with all of my Dr appointments in the last few weeks. My ENT is pretty sure it’s ménière’s disease. Inner ear disorder that is treatable.  Both times it happened I had crazy pressure in one of my ears. Vertigo set in and next thing I knew I was on the ground waking up. Ménière’s typically sets in on males 40-60.

On New Year’s Day I got up in the middle of the night for some water. Wasn’t tripping anymore but did earlier in the evening. Got to the top of my stairs and vertigo hit me like a freight train. Fortunately I sat down right away and instead of falling from a standing position down the stairs I was sitting when I blacked out. I’m lucky I did’t break my neck. Gave myself severe whiplash and a separated shoulder.

I am glad I have the monitor on and will be able to rule out my heart (while tripping) as a cause. My hunch is the fluid build up and ear pressure that often happens on larger doses triggers the vertigo which can cause blackouts.

What you explained also makes a ton of sense too. I can’t smoke weed anymore because I always feel like I’m going to pass out. I miss Mexican dirt weed!

Man you guys sure think alot.  hahah my brain just says *cant break whats broke* and set the torch to it.

By the way, that tub actually looked so good this morning, i put it back in with general population.  For the time being, it would appear I have actually won a fight with Trich bringing the offical shroomery communal score to 98345083720:1

I did mine yesterday too. Pretty sure I was dealing with surface trich because I didn’t see any evidence of it inside the sub when I cut the section out. I torched the section where I removed it from the cake. Guess I’ll know in a few days how it went!

Yep, until you get it totally figured out and under control, your only hope is to stay alert to any weirdness and get flat immediately. If you get flat and don't pass out, it's definitely the vagus nerve. Just make sure you drink electrolytes during/after your workouts until you know. I was non-weight bearing for 4 months in a cast, it fucked up my knee and hip, just the weight of the cast, bending my joints out of shape while sleeping. Before that I was fucking superman. That was officially the end of that. Now I have to consider my steps, how I will lift things, etc. mortal men stuff. You don't want that.

Thanks for the insight man! I’ve definitely been making sure my feet are under me when I get up for the last two weeks. Post concussion syndrome is a real thing. I was dizzy for a week after. Hit my head pretty good when I tumbled

First time bottom watering one of my tubs after reading a post by Baba Yaga…. Big success! Corresponding tub was too dry for anyone’s liking. I was apprehensive but I trust BY
Pins took 4 days to get to an inch tall and started aborting in a couple tubs.
Bottom watered one of two tubs with approx 1 cup of water
Grew three inches in next 10 hours.

second flush, if I don't need the tub right away, I'll give a shrunken sub a fighting chance by just letting it float in water.  hahahah.  beefs ez dialed and punished water shoeboxes.

I hit a spot late last night too. I was actually kind of happy to verify it was trich so I could get in on this torching business. 🤣

The trick with fire is to either throw salt on it or cut it out.

Having bottom watered many jars can verify that the mycelium do not really absorb much water at all "between flushes". But once the pins start growing, that's when they really suck it and it immediately gets converted into faster growing and bigger mushrooms. You can literally see with jars the water level going down by the hour as the mushrooms go up.

But when the mycelium puck in the jar is kinda semi submerged between flushes, the water level remains the same.

Cant imagine why it would be any different with larger tubs.
