Depends on the context, STB = Straight to Base as in CYB's STB

Broke a chunk off this grain knocked up in early August to spawn some and see what it does.

I feel like I'm being an airhead, but Is that a colonized grain bag? And you grabbed a handful to spawn, and left the rest in the grain bag? And it bruised super-duper blue when you did it?

Might have been a bit ambitious picking these for my 10th grow ever.. I only did some light reading and treated them like my other cube grows.. the tub stalled out after colonising.

Cue some more reading and found notes on using cacti mulch/soil as a casing layer, the fact they like it very wet ( someone reference pooling water ) and they like fresh air.

so I did all three, cased with a very wet cacti mulch and upped the fresh air and moved it to a room that was more 26-27c instead of low twenties.  boom it took life again!

Cant wait to get some fruits from this. Thanks for everyone who posts on here!

Yep, a few species have highly active mycelium.

There’s a thread on myceliated grain about letting it colonize and then sit to see how strong it gets. I think the first batch he let semp spawn sit for a year and it was insanely potent. You can dry it and eat it or make tea with it.

Eating super potent myc sounds like cheating, but I kinda like it.

Pseudo sclerotia.. at least that's what we've been calling them. They much softer than normal sclerotia and dry up to more of a skin. I was going to clone one for experimentation last year but never got around to it. Maybe this year.

Wheat/millet? Good choice.

Those are ready, but like LowDoja says, you can wait if you want. I have let subtrop jars sit for months before spawning and they fruited fine. I don't think there is any benefit to letting them consolidate after the first week or two, but it doesn't seem to do any harm.

I have been using the fogger for this round, 20 minutes on in the morning. I also mist the cakes a couple of times a week. Straight coir, no adjustment for pH and I didn’t check what it was(but I’ve been using the same coir for a while and it’s been working).
The fogger is a small room ultrasonic humidifier that wasn’t being used so I gave it a go. I like it, very foggy. Tubing is a drain hose from a dehumidifier.
