Well those things aren't going to help her more than an air purifier with a good hepa filter will, but they will definitely hurt her health.

Just convince her you need to set up a little pot growing tent with an LED light and a carbon filter.  It'll scrub the air in the house CLEAN while adding fresh oxygen.  Waste product of the whole operation is high quality pot.  Can't loose.

Oh cool.  That's good to hear.  And very intriguing. I'm definitely going to run a few more at this ratio to see how well it works out for me and if I can get results like you're talking about that would be cool.

Putting a brick of coir in a bucket and using boiling water won't sterilize or pasteurize, but for coir specifically it is enough.

You would still need to use colonized grains.



I found a coir and peat block, will this still be ok to use as substrate in my monotub?

I had a couple areas that I thought were about to go green. The mycelium formed a cluster of fluffy balls that were a brighter white than the rest of the tub. Now I'm wondering if it isn't trich because the balls have continued getting fluffier and it's been two days. In the past, green would show up pretty fast after the mold mycelium showed on the surface.

A second opinion would be greatly appreciated.

It looks splattered like trich often does, but IME the texture is more powder like, where as this looks fluffy. It could be my surface conditions that's changing the texture.

I've got this PE tub that I started on the 13th. It finished consolidating on the 23rd, and I cased it with pasteurized Jiffy mix. Everything looks great, but this is my first time with this cube variety, and I'm reading all sorts of different things about how long it takes to pin after full colonization and casing ( some stuff is outdated i think). So, I was wondering, how long does it usually take for regular PE to pin after it's fully colonized and cased? Thanks!

But I still feel like I did highlight my areas of concern.

Hey everyone,

This is my first grow and I need some help determining if this would be 100% or close to 100% colonization.

It's in an AIO grow bag that I plan to fruit as a cake in a humidity fruiting chamber or a sgfc. If you have any suggestions as to which would be better with a 5lb aio bag as a cake...


Note: I am growing B+ in this bag. 11/08 is when I inoculated the bag and 11/24 is when I broke up and mixed the bag. I am now just trying to figure out if this is 100% or if i need to give it longer. Also, any info on which fruiting chamber would be better given my situation would be greatly appreciated!


Anyway, here are the photos of where I am now.

I'm not sure if I captured the areas you mentioned.

I see a fleck of gold like material from my verm, as well as a grain on the surface that appears yellow but has mycelium growing on it. They both looked like myc-piss to me from afar.

The fact that you're concerned about the same areas as I am leads me to believe that my original diagnosis of competing mold was correct. I'm going to let it ride until I see green or get pins.

If anyone else wants to chime in, you're more than welcome to.

I spawned to bulk yesterday using substrate made with Eco Earth coco coir. I noticed the substrate was on the wet side but I still went ahead and spawned to bulk. Now that I'm thinking of it I should of squeezed out some water or added some vermiculite. The last time I used substrate that was too wet it started smelling like feet after a few days.
The question is, is it too late to do something about it? Can I open up the monotub, add some vermiculite and mix it up again? It has been a little more than 24 hours. The holes on the monotub have been taped up the whole time. People here on shroomery said that's okay to do but those posts are outdated and from the 2000s.

Edit: I might just take the tape off of the  holes and put micropore tape over it basically fruiting at spawn which I had success with before, So the watery substrate won't suffocate and end up fermenting and smelling like feet like what happened last time.

So, this is a gourmet question but I’m sure it applies to any mushroom. 

I just bought a six pound block of miatake spawn.  I’m planning on using almost all of it in bags, but I’d like to reserve some and store it longer term. 

My plan is to prepare a WBS grain spawn jar and do a grain to grain transfer.  Then store it in the fridge for up to a year.  I don’t plan on using a syringe at all, so I’m going to skip the self-healing port in the lid. 

Here is the question:  Do I need to add a micropore sticker and a hole for gas exchange, or can I just seal it up with an unaltered lid until I’m ready to use it?  In other words, how do I prep a sample for longer term storage so I don’t have to buy another block of grain spawn, later?

I’m not opposed to just storing a tissue sample on a slant, but I’m looking for the best method to preserve what I have so I can make more grain spawn later.
