zman, give it a shot, though i found that my grains tend to puff up and the water level doesnt move a whole lot.
i checked tonight, its about 1/8 of a quart of water absorbed per grain jar, give or take.
i added a couple more pics of draining to the main post too :thumbup:



So this is just a few years old now... :tongue: but why not simplify things by just adding 1/2 cup of water to each jar and skip the draining part?

Just produce grain spawn as per usual, do not add extra water to your jars, do not soak your spawn in water.

Why? Because you're going to spawn your grain to a bulk substrate that's full of water, by properly hydrating your substrate you eliminate any requirements for further exposure to moisture.

The substrate has all of the water your colony will ever need. My substrate contaims 5L of h20, how could soaking my already fully hydrated grains in water benefit me? The only thing that will be achieved is washing some amount of mycelium off of your grains.

This tek is 100% pointless.
