Has nobody designed a holder to print and leave in the sab while they dry?

So I should use something else as a casing layer? Ugh, lol this is soooo confusing

No. If they are cubes you don’t need an actual casing.

Coir will do just fine

Thanks for the clarification my friend. I appreciate you

I flipped everyone over last night. We'll see what happens. Worst comes to worst, Ive got another 10 plates ready to be streaked. Learning curves can be a real pain huh? Appreciate the tip - verticle could save a bit of space too, and Ill take all I can, being in a studio!

If there was nutritional value in it. All of the bacteria and mold would have a chance to grow on it. It has no nutritional value so the only thing that could grow on it is stuff that you introduced to it.

Question about coir's nutritional value, as I'm picking up two different views.

Coco coir (https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Chemical-composition-of-coconut-coir-and-coconut-fiber-compared-with-wood_tbl2_342395982)
C/N Ratio: 100:1
Lignin: 29%
Cellulose: 21%
Hemicellulose: 9%

Straw (wheat) (https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Cellulose-hemicellulose-and-lignin-content-of-several-straw-materials-modified-from_tbl1_333085926)
C/N Ratio: 80:1
Lignin: 12-16%
Cellulose: 35-39%
Hemicellulose: 23-30%

Both coir and straw are barely nutritious, but coir is pretty significantly less nutritious than straw. Straw's carbon to nitrogen ratio is lower, and it contains a much higher ratio of more readily digested sugars.

Coir contains trace amounts of a number of things like boron, calcium, chlorine, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, nitrogen and zinc. Coir is  structurally made up of approximately 26.72% cellulose, 17.73% hemicellulose, and 41.19% lignin.

Its not 100% inert but it might as well be when you're talking about measurable effect on the culture. Pasty has already done trials on the nutritional input of coir with respect to fruiting. Coir is simply a water reservoir, especially when you introduce nutrient dense cereal grains:

We use roughly 900g of raw wheat to produce 4 myco quarts of hydrated spawn.

You can test this by attempting to fruit from straight coir without added supplementation (which is what Pasty did).
Small amounts of the above are likely being utilized by the colony but at such small amounts as to have little to no effect, you might as well say zero. Saying that coir has nutritional input is like saying you're helping when dumping out a thimble of sand on the beach.

Fruiting from straight grains suck, but fruiting from straight coir sucks more.

Fruiting gourmet species from coir tends to suck as well.

Pros and cons of shaking grains? Pros: Faster colonization. Possible test for contams by observing recovery. What else? Cons? TIA

Good exercise.

Have read and thus follow: shaking once at ~25% colonization distributes mycelium and accelerates overall colonization.

Shaking at full colonization: so you can "pour" and evenly distribute the grains.

theres no cons.  its convention because it works.  speeds things along and gets you a nice consistent colonization.

oh wait the con is that its actually tiring.  ten jars is a little workout.

Coir just provides moisture and structure, right? And the grains continue to provide nutrients?

Yeah, I just PCd 21 jars   Not my main concern, though. I'm at a "leave it alone / stop interfering / neglect tek" space, so thought I'd ask.
