Good. I’m sick of freeloading silicates living off my hard work

So I have been teetering between live culture and multispore syringes. I’m looking for the max yield I can get, does anyone have any idea on which might be better for that?

Well unless you get lucky multispore isn’t going to give you good yields. Generally you need a clone you’ve tested through growing to ensure it will consistently yield well

hey all, this is my second ever grow and also the second one in a row to have like 80% more like 90% of the entire grow be side pins. i know that there is nothing wrong with side pins, and i am very happy that there are a lot of fruits with more on the way, but could there be something i'm doing to cause this?

wheat won't be good for that long, depending on your lid setup. I have found that the upper ceiling for hydrated wheat storage is about 6-7 months. dont know about other grains. other may say different.

edit-that is with a 1/4' hole sticker+tape. I haven't tried unmodded, but if there is little to no ge I feel like it would be somewhat longer.

Will rectangular/square arm-holes effect the function of a SAB? Would the right angles create more turbulence than circular holes? Most holes I've seen on folks SABs are circular, but I'm wondering if that might be a result of the traditional coffee-can hole burning technique.

Psilocybe cyanescens
Psilocybe allenii
Gymnopilus luteofolius

It shouldn’t matter. As long as they aren’t huge compared to your arms.

Great, thanks for the response Genesis, I'll give my impulsively cut square-holed SAB a go and if the results are garbage I'll join the circle-holed masses.

the simple answer is that you are less likely to bump your arms if there are no angles.

Gotchya. My holes were originally circular, but I felt they were too small and spaced too far apart. To give myself some more room, I cut around the original circular holes and made them square.

Agar Recipe

I have been making my plates from a recipe that is
10g Agar
10g LME
1g Yest

The question i have is this to much nutrients for plates? I get growth no problem but would the mycelium be more aggressive if it had to branch out looking form more nutrients?

That's a standard recipe that most of us use.

Thank you very much, no need for change then. Not experienced enough yet to start trying new things, I want to get consistently good first. Then move on to the experimental "for science" projects!

Start with that and then experiment dropping the nutrients down a gram each time you pour and monitor how the mycelium behaves. You’ll eventually find a sweet spot you like when it comes to rhizo growth

2% carbohydrate with 2% agar is the standard non-selective agar recipe. The most common carbohydrates are: dry malt extract, potatoe dextrose, and brf.

Lot's of folks add other ingredients but they're not necessary because the culture is not intended to live out it's life cycle on agar but will be transferred to grain.

Not a question, just more of a statement.

These jars smelled strongly of fresh mushrooms. No hint of anything else.

Point being, you cant trust your senses in this hobby.

Smell is meaningless. I stopped smelling jars n bags a long time ago. One time I even caught a bacterial pneumonia after curiously sniffing extremely bacterial grain bags. I dunno if it was cause of that, but it sure was a weird coincidence.

Use a can opener on the bottom of a paint can to get a thin metal rim. Then place it on the stove top and use it to melt perfect circles into your sab. Imo the ideal size for a sab is a 110 qt.

just fucking around:
was at the store and saw this cheap "cat sand" make of 100% bentonite
Can bentonite replace vermiculite in Subs and BRF cakes?
It's 5 times cheaper than vermiculite in my hole of the world...
:bestcry:
