I also don't understand how if he were to go to trial, and either be found not guilty or mistrial, how is that worse than looming criminal charges that the (almost)majority of America thinks are warranted.  Wouldn't a trial just prove trumps rhetoric if he isn't found guilty?

A trial would publicly expose actual evidence.  His words would come out.  Trump's appeal is that he leaves his base with the impression that he isn't a phony...that he says what he means, etc.  A trial would show that the private side of Trump is nothing like the public side that he portrays.  That's gonna hurt him.  Sure, there will be a whole contingent claiming that this is fake and that is fake, but there will be plenty of people who are crestfallen and disappointed that their god-king isn't what they thought he was.

Getting convicted is almost better for him than being acquitted, too.  Neither will disqualify him from being president.

the bigest detrament to trump is trump.

if he goes on the stand he is more than likely going to lie under oath and EVERYONE knows it.

including probably trump.

asing trump to define WHY he believes the 2020 election was stolen in detail would be a landmine of false statements underoath.

enough to hang him? or just to keep him from being president is unknown.

I don't see that being asked in a trial anyway.  If it were, I don't see any way that he could perjure himself answering that question.

Asking why he believes something is asking his opinion.  It's hard to lie about an opinion.  In fact, perjury doesn't apply to opinion testimony at all.  As a primary matter, however, his reasons for believing something aren't likely to be relevant at a trial.

anyhow there has been quite a bit of fact collecting on issues around trump being aware that he lost the election for which trump has made public statements to the contrary.

if the goal is to try trump fairly, this may not matter in many of the cases, but if the goal would be to force and error it wouldnt be that hard to give it enough contextual validity for it to be brought up as a line of questions for trump that could lead to such an error.

and there are plenty of other likely ways to hang him on his own rope as well.

For the jan 6 charges, it may be slightly relevant what he believed on that day, but what he believes today isn't even close to relevant.  Even if he did go to trial, it would be very unlikely that he would even testify.  He's stupid, but he is very aware of his stupidity, so I doubt he'd put himself in the position where a superior intellect can lead him to his own self-destruction like that.

i already told you that i didnt really mean that the opinion would be asked, so much as i was defining the direction of the line of questions. a good lawyer would understand im sure. since no one here is a lawyer i dont guess we can ask. but im sure a good lawyer wouldnt ask what trump believes... but frame the questions for the effect they were seeking.
